Today we’d like to introduce you to Trish Cox.
Hi Trish, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story is just like any entrepreneur’s story, bumpy yet exciting. I grew up 30 minutes outside of NYC so work ethic and high energy is in my blood. Both my parents are extremely hard-working. My mom left India to pursue a career in music and my dad is a serial entrepreneur, guess I know where I get it from. He retired, begrudgingly, at 82 – sure hope I don’t have that much drive though, ha. I grew up pretty fast, your typical New York hustle, my high school was competitive and showy to be honest so I tried to get a well-rounded perspective on life and went to college far away in Indiana, go Hoosiers! IU was amazing, I met some very interesting people, some similar to me, many not like me at all. 4 years flew by and I quickly came back to NY after graduating like every New Yorker I know does. I went right back to the rat race and started Producing reality shows throughout the country for ten years. I had a robust career filled with celebrities, drama, storytelling and a bit of partying as you can imagine. Oh, the stories I have – I Produced Project Runway, Ice Loves Coco, Lala’s Full Court Life, Alaska Bush people and Ink Master to name a few.
Life changed for me when I went to a yoga retreat in India nine years ago. When I was there, I realized as a New Yorker, in television, I never really paused! I met some great people who opened my mind to things outside my little bubble and that’s when the growth and magic happened. I decided to pack my bags and move to Colorado… Yup, out of nowhere, really. I was ready for change. I dabbled in TV in Denver because it’s hard to make so much change, right? I went back to what was comfortable.I worked on a show for FaceBook with Von Miller, but with the new tools I learned from my retreat, I asked myself – Was I doing the same thing I did in NY, just in Denver? A big and scary change happened again for me and I decided to start anew. I love fitness so I said, screw it I’ll just start a career in it. I worked at OrangeTheory Fitness for a bit, wandering throughout life before I decided to become a Real Estate Agent. Oh great, not another one! I always say this because there are SO many agents out there, I get it. I know I landed on my passion and what is ultimately for me because I get to help people. I can take my skills from being a Producer and transfer it to real estate. With few words, I can tell what someone wants or doesn’t want in a home, I get to hold their hand through one of the biggest or the biggest financial decisions of their life and I get to be the fierce negotiator that I am. I truly love it so so much, it allows me to be myself and surround myself with people that I care for and want to help. Now I live up in the mountains just up the hill from Denver and life has gotten even better, which is hard to imagine.
Of course, there are always some bumps along the road, but I get through it laughing and moving.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Oh noooo it has not been smooth! Anyone who tells you life is smooth is full of it, ha! First off, my career in television at first was brutal, talk about the egos! The talent, the male crew members, who depending on your age can belittle you, the executives who dismiss you. You have to fight your way for respect and acceptance. If you’re a hard worker with thick skin, you’ll get there, but not without some tears and feeling less-than. To not completely disrespect a lot of the amazing people I worked with, it’s just like any job, some people are great and some people kind of suck. My advice is, find the good people, the ones that make you feel good even when you’re failing, gravitate towards them and ask them to be your mentor. In any field, it’s always great to have a mentor or a coach to show you the ropes.
Back to the struggles – it was just hard, each show is three months long, so it’s not like you are consistently working with the same group. You are not with the same crew, producers or talent every show; you quickly have to learn how to work with someone, even if you don’t like them. It’s fast-pasted and that is what initially pulled me towards it, very exciting, on a plane all the time, rubbing elbows with some very fascinating people. But as I get older, I started to think, is this what I want my life to be? Always on the go, mostly single because no one wants to date someone who leaves every other week, time passing by and no one to share these experiences with. Nope. So I left, with little intention to return to the concrete jungle.
The challenges only continued for me, but in different ways. Moving by myself to a new state is terrifying! I had my best friend who lived in Denver so that helped a lot, but she had a busy career and life, so at times I felt somewhat alone. Now, looking back, I’m happy I went through it alone. In order to figure it out you have to feel challenged, scared, determined; it pushes you to new heights. I also think we are all trying to figure it out, luckily there is a great movement where honesty and vulnerability is encouraged. In NY that would be seen as SUCH a weakness… I was way too afraid to express who I really was then.
I call them lessons now all the struggles I had to face. The men I dated, the careers I tried out, the apts I moved in and out of. I learned so much about myself at the time – I left the nest and out of my comfort zone. If anything, I am the biggest proponent of doing something that scares you. Who cares, if it doesn’t work, you probably learned something about yourself and then won’t allow it to happen again. But if you never try, how do you know? What if something incredible happens from trying something new. I know all of these “failures” got me to exactly where I need to be today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Coldwell Banker – @tcoxproperties?
How I would like to separate myself – I’m community-focused, light-hearted and truly care. I’m not your average volume broker and I want to be seen for being knowledgeable and reliable when times get tough. I help my clients move, help sell their items, I have countless systems and processes for them to follow, I’ll go to their work and pick up earnest money checks and so much more!
I try hard to make the process enjoyable, painless and most importantly FUN. This career is not easy, especially with all the options out there, my goal and want is to have a genuine connection and trust with my clients. Being community focused and giving back is a big part of my mission. I’m an active member of the Conifer Rotary Club, a Board Member of the PCCP Resale Boutique and a volunteer/podcaster at Conifer Radio. Acts of service is my passion, along with some jokes and activity, of course. Finding clients who feel the same way makes for a really great experience.
My slogan is Create Your Own Reality because most people are limited by their thinking. I know first-hand, change your mindset, change your reality. Anything is possible.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m very adventurous and love all Colorado activities – camping, hiking, climbing, skiing, dancing, you name it. I’ll try anything new, within reason. I teach Palango Fitness classes up the hill, message me if you want to take a class or work together! I am open to holding charity events, meet-ups, going to concerts or getting a coffee. My goal is to meet someone new every day, would love for you to help me achieve that goal!
