Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitley Ward.

Hi Whitley, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Whitley, I’m from small town Arkansas and have been in Colorado for 6 years now. I’ve been behind the chair for 13 years and have loved every step of the journey. A little over a year ago, I opened my own salon where I get to create in a space that feels like home. Hair color has always been my passion as I love helping people feel bold, vibrant, and completely themselves

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely was not an easy road I spent many years hating the atmosphere I was in with toxic coworkers but 5 years ago I started at a salon I was really able to grow at and now work with many hair brands in passionate about while now growing my own business

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
As a salon owner, I lead with heart. I care deeply about creating a space that feels safe, welcoming, and full of joy not just for our clients, but for my stylist too. After years of working in spaces that didn’t always align with who I am, I’ve built a salon rooted in authenticity, creativity, and community. I want everyone who walks through the door to feel seen, celebrated, and inspired. At Neon Blonde we are know for our more edgy and alternative vibe. We do a lot of bold color and cuts but even if that’s not your thing we hold space for everyone that is looking for a welcoming atmosphere

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Finding a mentor in the beauty industry is honestly one of the most important things as a new stylist. School doesn’t teach you enough of the real side of salons. Finding someone that has similar interests as you and that aligns with your goals is the way to go.
