Lauren Hribek’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

Lauren Hribek shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Lauren, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
I think the biggest thing that is misunderstood, or more so overlooked, is the behind the scenes work, time and heart that goes into the a session outside of the face to face 75 minutes. Much effort goes into creating a class even before someone steps into the studio. For example, if I create a 2 hour special event or workshop, it takes hours to birth it into being. I must first find a theme, create the name, description, flyer, emails and social media content. I purchase the supplies, price it out, research and plan the class and more. This can take up to 5-10 hours sometimes, depending on how elaborate or how familiar I am with the subject. And we can’t forget that I have 15+ years of education (money and time) and experience that has all added up to this creation. People don’t see the love and labor that goes into an event behind the scenes.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’ve been instructing for over 15 years and teach a movement style that not only includes the mindfulness, connection and stress relief of traditional yoga, but also pulls from corrective exercise. Both the depth of the yogic tradition, paired with the science of movement, is not often taught in yoga trainings. The type of yoga I offer is distinctive and specialized in this way.
My expertise is in anxiety and pain mangement, injury recovery and prevention, as well as mindful self-compassion.
My style is focused on safe alignment, stability of joints, and connecting with the breath. I will always adapt poses for your unique needs and goals because yoga is for every body.

I typically work with people one-on-one, but I also love guiding small private groups. I enjoy creating fun, themed events, workshops, and series, as well as day and weekend retreats that invite people to step out of the everyday routine. My offerings are designed to help you explore how yoga can be lived off the mat, while also reconnecting with yourself and with nature.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
The first memory of feeling powerful that comes to mind is when I took my first solo trip. I rode with some friends who were driving from Michigan to Florida for vacation. They dropped me off at the Hostel in the Forest in Georgia, and I began a journey into self discovery. I followed my intuition, met amazing people and opened my eyes to different ways of life and possibilities. I was a college student at the time and expenses were super tight, but on this trip, I decided to take the leap and spend the money on my 200 hour yoga teacher training and it changed my life. Whenever I travel alone, I feel so connected to myself, and this makes me feel powerful.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
When I first decided to build a business, I almost gave up within the first couple of years. I spent a few thousand dollars on a coach and although I learned a lot, my business didn’t boom as I hoped. I also found technology extremely frustrating and struggled with the mind games that people play to market themsleves and attract attention, as well as trying to stay on top of the algorithm. Once I decided to just be me, market how I want to market despite the way I “should”, and see things as a learning process, I was able to let go of the pressure and have more fun and enjoy the journey more.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I admire my good friend Rachel. She is kind, giving and down to earth. She overflows with love, energy and abundance and radiates this to everyone who is around her. She owns a successful growing wellness business and wants her team to feel supported and powerful. She is both my personal and professional role model.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I am in nature, surrounded by trees, a breeze, sights and smells of this magnificant world. all the craziness drops away and I remember how enormous and spectacular this world is.
