Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Amy Borman of Metro Denver

We recently had the chance to connect with Amy Borman and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Amy, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Would I hire me? Absolutely — and here’s why.

With over 25 years of hands-on interior design experience, a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from an accredited university, and professional credentials including ASID membership and NCIDQ certification, I bring a deep well of knowledge and credibility to the table. But beyond the degrees and credentials lies what truly sets me apart: my ability to merge high-level design expertise with practical application and an innate sense of style that is both refined and timeless.

I’ve had the privilege of working with clients, builders, and developers across the country, each project sharpening my ability to adapt, create, and collaborate. What consistently drives success in my work is not just a great eye for design — it’s the human side of it. I know how to listen. I know how to guide. And I know how to translate a client’s vision into a space that feels both aspirational and deeply personal.

Would I hire me? Without hesitation. I bring the rare blend of taste, professionalism, and that ever-important skill — the ability to communicate in an approachable, relatable, and solution-oriented way. Design isn’t just about beautiful things. It’s about understanding people, anticipating needs, and crafting environments that elevate everyday living. That’s what I do — and that’s why I’d hire me in a heartbeat.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a seasoned solo-preneur and the creative force behind a boutique interior design firm that I’ve proudly helmed for years. Interior design isn’t just what I do — it’s my first love, my lifelong passion, and the lens through which I see the world.

Rooted in a deep respect for aesthetics, wellness, and function, my approach blends timeless style with intentional living. I’ve built my career around helping people fall in love with where they live — creating spaces that feel like a true reflection of who they are, and that they simply can’t wait to come home to.

As a designer, I’m immersed in all things creative — from textiles to textures, colors to concepts. I live and breathe design, and that energy shows in the thoughtful, tailored spaces I create. My work is personal, never cookie-cutter, and always delivered with a dose of taste, intuition, and a bit of good-humored charm.

Design is my art, my business, and my way of connecting with others — one beautiful space at a time.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Oh, just me — patiently waiting for the rest of the world to catch up.

I’ve always been unapologetically myself: creative to the core, a little sassy, deeply passionate about design, and endlessly curious about how people live in — and love — their spaces. The world may have tried to hand me a script, but I never liked being cast in someone else’s production.

These days, I surround myself with kind, intelligent, can-do humans who get it — whether they’re clients, colleagues, builders, or showroom reps. If you appreciate craftsmanship, collaboration, and a solid sense of humor, we’re probably going to get along just fine.

So who was I before the world told me who to be? Still me. Authentic, optimistic, and slightly addicted to beautiful things. I see the world through rose-colored glasses — and honestly, I hope I never take them off.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Not quite — but moving from LA to Denver in 2010 with a young family definitely hit the pause button on my design career. I was juggling diapers and design dreams, trying to break into a new city while figuring out if snow boots could be stylish.

It took time, a few local design gigs, and a crash course in Denver’s neighborhood quirks — but I found my rhythm. I didn’t give up… I just took the scenic route (with great lighting, of course).

Like my favorite little train always said: I think I can, I think I can… and spoiler alert — I did.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
That designers with formal education are simply better equipped. Period.

Yes, there’s plenty of natural talent out there — but knowing how to style your own home isn’t the same as managing space, scale, codes, function, and flow for someone else.

You wouldn’t trust someone with great hair to cut yours without training, right? Same deal.

It’s not a chip on my shoulder — it’s a well-balanced, professionally styled mantle.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
When I’m on the hunt — dust in the air, coffee in hand, and the thrill of discovery just around the next booth.

There’s something deeply grounding about antiquing, especially in places where objects whisper stories. I feel most like myself wandering the long, sun-drenched aisles of the Rose Bowl Flea Market or weaving through the tented treasure troves of Round Top, Texas. Even a local estate sale with the right patina of history can stop me in my tracks.

Give me the flea markets of Europe — Portobello Road in London is a personal favorite — or an unassuming boutique tucked away in a small town. Vintage clothing, weathered boots, chunky turquoise jewelry, worn-in belts, and character-filled furniture? Yes, please. I’m not just shopping — I’m time traveling.

For me, it’s not just about the find — it’s about the hunt. That’ is when I feel most at peace.
