Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Anthony Charles of Colorado Springs

We recently had the chance to connect with Anthony Charles and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Anthony, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What battle are you avoiding?
I’m avoiding the fact that I have made some tough choices in my life, & accepting those decisions & not letting them affect my journey. Embrace that I need to be better at being happy now & not feeling guilty about it.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Anthony Charles, artist name is Swank Sinatra, for the potential readers I would like you to know that I’m proud to be able to share my art with you. Creating stories through audio, visuals, live performances is my passion. Authentic storytelling is my brand, being true to self, compromising only to excel my growth as a person. Baltimore, Maryland is my birthplace & Colorado Springs is my current home. The Scenic Route is my current project that I’m promoting, inspired by my time in Colorado & other cities I visited. YouTube along with other major streaming platforms is where the project is currently available, I hope you enjoy the art.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child I believed that I wasn’t good enough, because of being in a foster home along with a stint in a shelter with my mother & older brother. That journey made me feel indifferent from other people growing up. As I grew wiser my understanding of the situation changed. The perspective that we all have different journeys in life & that every thing happens for a reason. In totality, I no longer believe that I’m not good enough.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering thought me that, I only control my reaction & effort, not the results. Success could never teach me that, it could only teach me that sometimes your hard work pays off & other times it doesn’t reflect in the fashion we may want. Accepting that suffering is a perspective & a opportunity to experience growth through turmoil,

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
The public version of me is the real me for sure! Creating an image to portray in public has never been my forte. Being one way in private & being another in public is very difficult, I would imagine & exhausting. Staying true to self & accepting the pros & cons that come with that is something I can accept.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Giving everything my best has become a lifestyle, so yes! I could give my best without being praised for it. Accepting that has made life easier, especially when in a creative process. Knowing that some will appreciate the art & others won’t. As long as I love the art I’m creating, that’s the main objective.
