Ellyse Colson shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Ellyse, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I am really in my “grandma hobby” era! I am loving crocheting, doing puzzles, and reading as much as possible. It’s been bringing me so much joy to just down and crank out a cute little basket (much to my husband’s dismay!) or read a book in the matter of a couple days.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Well, hi, my name is Ellyse. I am a business coach for done for you service providers and freelancers. My main mission is to help them create consistent income in their businesses while only working part-time hours. I know how hard this is because I struggled with it so hard when I first started my business. I spent the first 2 years of my business also working a 9-5 so I could make enough month after month to justify letting go of that stable income. Once I figured out the best way to make consistent income, I knew I needed to help others do the same.
I am a solopreneur and honestly don’t have any real plans to grow into a large company. I think it’s one of the reasons I’m so connected to my clients because they feel the same way about their businesses. It’s been fun to find the balance between making an impact with my clients and really enjoying the freedom of being a business owner.
I am a life-first entrepreneur with a firm love of family. Not only do I have drive to build a business I love and help others do the same, I also want to be present for my kids. I feel so lucky to have had a front row seat to watching them grow and become awesome little humans.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents have been such a huge influence on my work ethic. I also think I have a strong sense of self and am fairly intrinsically motivated so it also helps to keep me moving forward even when I’m not necessarily seeing the results. I had two working parents as I grew up and both of them held positions of leadership, which I think just instilled in me that I could also be a leader.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Honestly, I want people to like me. I know that sounds so silly. At the end of the day, I want people to see me as a kind person and someone worth spending time with. It’s been hard to show up and share thoughts on hot topics. I’m still working on it, but hopefully making moves in the positive direction.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
I’m not really one for fads. I am definitely not an early adopter. When something new pops up, the first question I ask myself is, “does this align with my values?” If the answer is no, then it’s a no for me. If it’s a yes, then I explore how to make it fit without completely overhauling everything. The best decisions I”ve made, are in small tweaks, not big overhauls.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope that people talk about how kind I am and how much I’m willing to do for people. I genuinely care about people and want them to find their own meaning and purpose. I truly see people and hope they talk about how “seen” they felt in my presence.
