Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Jenny Wood of Cherry Creek

We recently had the chance to connect with Jenny Wood and have shared our conversation below.

Jenny, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I start my day getting the morning sun in my eyes and walking outdoors! While I’m walking I clear my head, and it gives me time to organize what I’m going to work on in the studio that day!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jenny Wood, I’m an artist/painter living in Colorado. I have a huge love of the west—mountains, horses, cowgirls, chickens etc. God is the ultimate creator, but being able to recreate all of these beautiful life forms with paint through my unique lens is a blessing!!

My company is Jen Woods sacred art, and I do commission work, murals, and mainly work on canvas or panel, but I’m constantly growing and trying new things.

I was recently diagnosed with cancer and it’s actually lit more of a fire in my soul to create! I’m practicing live painting, doing local pop up community events, and painting more than ever. A dream of mine is to do a mural with a positive message with youth groups.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was learning to ride horses! When I started riding I was scared, my legs would feel weak, and I also had to learn the “language” of the horse. With time I became physically strong, and more fearless. I began competing in hunter/jumper events and ended up playing polo as well. Horses taught me patience, perseverance, and that I could overcome just about anything.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
That your life path will look different, but that does not make you wrong! To follow my instincts and never give up!

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Seeking truth, and speaking my truth! I’ve received a lot of flack for being direct, But in a world of a lot of deception it’s important, and it’s important to share your truth in a respectful way, I think we have lost the art of deep conversation, and healthy debate. I’m doing my part to bring this back!

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
What I was born to do! It’s not outside of me, if that makes sense? My paintings are a part of who I am, a part of my soul on canvas. I see it as a collaboration of myself and God.
