Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Lorenzo Chavez of Parker

We recently had the chance to connect with Lorenzo Chavez and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Lorenzo, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
At this stage in my career as a professional artist for over 40 years, I am embracing the idea of wandering while still following a path. I am exploring new ways of creating, trying new color theories and designs while following the path of an artists who loves a traditional look while most the art being created today is moving away from that. I still get excited by great drawing and hard-earned painting skills only learned from working form life.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a landscape painter mainly inspired by the landscape, history and people of the American West and specifically the Southwest. The landscapes in these areas have been and continue to inspire me to put a canvas or pastel paper on an easel and paint what I see, feel and love. I love the rural places and the feeling of a time gone by and I need to create images that have that feeling of place. I know I am rooted in the past somewhat but have a firm grip on what is still here and now. I feel I am a Folk Impressionist Landscape painter living now as things are changing so quickly, I want to slow down and savor what is still around us before it is gone.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I feel I have been very blessed to have connected with people who saw my love of art more than I saw in in myself. I love the quote by Joseph Campbell ” Follow your passion and doors will open where none are visible’. I truly know that is true, I follow a deep desire to get involved in the arts and it seemed fate put me in places and lead me to people who help in this journey.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to be brave go forward and always pursue what you love, life will come to your aid and help you along in your journey. Don’t give up when things are tough or a struggle. Remember the best views are after a hard climb up.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I really admire people who have pursued a creative life and have made it work. I love art that shares a love of the craft and love of the subject. Artists and creatives from the past and present all offer plenty of inspiration.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What will you regret not doing?
The biggest regret would be to stop living a creative life and to not love my wife, family and friends.
