We’re looking forward to introducing you to Meghan Cocchiaro. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Meghan, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
That professional home organizing is only a luxury, high-end service for wealthy people. While it certainly can be for some companies who focus on that clientele only, other organizers provide services for normal, everyday families who truly value the time and money they can save and the stress that can be reduced from having things taken off their plate and systems created for them that allow them to function more efficiently in their homes and daily lives.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Meghan Cocchiaro, owner and lead organizer of Organized by Meg, a professional home organizing company based in Littleton, Colorado. I specialize in providing full-service home organizing – decluttering, creating organizing systems, and later maintaining and providing personal concierge services to busy women and families.
I had a 10+ year career in corporate accounting where I burnt out from juggling my work, family and managing my home. I decided to declutter my home and schedule to make room to pursue my passion for organized living on another level. I started my business in New Jersey in 2020 and later re-launched it in Colorado after my family moved there.
I work with multiple clients each week both in person in the Denver metropolitan area and online, employing other women so that we can act as a team to serve more clients in less time. I pride myself on the personalized level of service we provide, forming lasting relationships with my clients and customizing systems for them that last long after I leave their homes.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My dad taught me the worst about work ethic. He grew up poor and didn’t get the opportunity to attend college, but taught himself so much about the world and working. He is incredibly handy and a problem solver. I have so many of his traits, including his knack for order and organizing and I still go to him for all my questions.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
When I first moved my business to Colorado from New Jersey after building it for two years I underestimated how hard it would be to completely start over in a new state. I didn’t realize the power of the network I had where I was born and raised, where family and friends really supported me in spreading the word about my business. I struggled early on in Colorado with consistency in rebuilding my business, and I considered quitting to go back to a more stable corporate job. I decided I could quit or double down – so I bet on myself and kept working at it. Hard work really does pay off.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
They would say that I really value quality over quantity in my friendships, relationships and things, both physically and metaphorically. I truly believe that less is best. I value hard work and things done right. I value convenience. My business also really matters to me because the work I do and transformations I create for others really makes a difference that both my clients and I can see and feel. My business also supports my home life because I can create my own rules and schedule, allowing time for me to enjoy time with my family and friends.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
That I cared so deeply about my family, friends, clients and pets. That I worked really hard because I had a career that I really enjoyed but felt really valued in and that helped to contribute to my family. That I taught my sons the value of both working hard and doing what you love – and not being afraid to try new things that may go against what we are “supposed” to do in life.
Also that I was a really good skiier and hopefully I got to be a bit of ski bum before I’m gone.
