Weston Mosburg shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Weston, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Absolutely. One of my mentorship students recently sent me a heartfelt message about our time working together. She said she couldn’t believe how much progress she’d made in such a short time and that the experience was worth every bit of her investment. She talked about feeling more confident, more focused, and ready to move forward with her passion. Moments like that remind me why I do what I do. It’s incredibly fulfilling to see someone’s growth, not just in skill, but in belief in themselves. Knowing I played a part in that transformation makes me proud, grateful, and even more driven to keep creating opportunities for others to succeed.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Weston Mosburg, a fashion photographer and videographer based between New York City and Denver. For over 15 years, I’ve had the privilege of working with brands and publications like Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Rolling Stone, Forbes, and Condé Nast, capturing everything from high-energy runway shows to intimate editorial portraits. My work blends technical precision with creative storytelling, aiming to highlight diversity, beauty, and individuality in every frame. Beyond shooting for clients, I’m passionate about mentoring the next generation of photographers through my program, helping them build careers in the fashion industry. Right now, I’m deep into preparing for the upcoming fashion season, creating both for designers and guiding my students toward their own breakthrough moments.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that believed I had to do everything on my own. For years, I carried the weight of thinking success meant being self-reliant in every aspect, from the creative to the business side. While that independence served me in building my career, it also limited how far I could go. Letting go of that mindset has opened the door to collaboration, trust, and building teams that elevate the work far beyond what I could achieve alone.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
For sure. Early in my career, I hit a point where the constant hustle, inconsistent income, and rejection started to feel overwhelming. I remember sitting with my gear, wondering if I should pivot to something “safer.” But instead of walking away, I doubled down, niched down, found mentors, and pushed myself to market my work in smarter ways. That period taught me that persistence isn’t just about working harder, it’s about working with intention. Looking back, those moments when I almost gave up became the foundation for everything I’ve built since.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
Believing that talent alone is enough. I see so many smart, skilled people assume that their work will speak for itself, but in today’s world, visibility is just as important as ability. If you’re not putting yourself out there, telling your story, and building relationships, your talent might never get the chance to be seen. The people who win are the ones who combine skill with strategy.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
Don’t waste your life doing something that doesn’t light you up. You never know how long you have, and you can’t wait until retirement to start living, you may not get there. Memento Mori, remember you will die and Memento Vivere, remember to live, are two sides of the same truth I carry with me. Whatever time I have, I want to embrace it fully, do the work I love, and find meaning in every part of the journey.
