Life & Work with Alistair Hawkes of West

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alistair Hawkes.

Alistair Hawkes

Hi Alistair, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a Skool community builder. I have been pivoting out of providing therapy 1:1 for a few years now and landed on the Skool platform, which is amazing. My Skool community is called The Spiral Reset Lab where you can find a vibrant community of service professionals who are committed to community and who are communicating about wellness, self-development and transformation, creating entrepreneurial endeavors, and growing together.

The future is here. We are living in a world that is full of escalation, drama, theatre, fear, anger, hate and division. I got to where I am today by following a path of service to others.

I worked in community mental health as a therapist in many different agencies and with many different populations. I mostly worked with adolescents early in my career and one of my last therapist agency jobs was providing support to adults with developmental disabilities who were trying to win their children back from Child Protective Services but most of these adults were so disabled they eventually lost their children through adoption or kinship placement. As a provider this is hard to watch. I can only imagine what if feels like to be the kid’s parents. Adults with developmental disabilities don’t grow fast enough for this system to be happy. After witnessing a number of families lose custody of their children I sought advice about next steps. I was given some intuitive and somewhat metaphysal guidance and it was suggested I move follow a path into the unknown and found myself teaching the HIKE4evolution self-development system to young and old alike.

My next job was as a social emotional learning (SEL) specialist with another agency that sent me into elementary schools in the district to teach mental health life skills as a Prevention Specialist. I loved that work and did it for 4 years, served 1000s of students, teachers and adults in the community before I went full time into my private practice in 2019.

Since 2019 I have been teaching, public speaking, and consulting on mental health, wellness, energy medicine, energy psychology, somatic perspective, stress management, and community building. I currently offer classes online in the Skool platform, and also spend time building relationships with other providers and educators in my area.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Ha ha…has anyone reading this had a smooth road? If so, let me interview you and let’s engineer smooth roads for others…

Some of the struggles I experienced along the path of life…let us start with all the early life experiences I had that caused relational and social deficits for me, which steered me toward helping myself and ultimately helping others who also struggle with mental health and behavioral challenges. Struggles in agency work are their notoriously and ridiculously large caseloads, burnout, and chaotic work/life balance. Other struggles include the nuance of working with people online when we all went remote during covid, and rethinking what I offer others and how to create a community and programs that people want to engage with. Life. There’s always something. And, it’s great…Enjoy!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love talking about my work. My work is about serving others by teaching them how to manage themselves better, and building community. Therapists, teachers, and medical care professionals tend to come to me for burnout and anxiety and all the associated feelings, behaviors, and circumstances that come with those challenges. They want to be able to continue to serve in their own careers without ending up last on their own list of priorities, which happens a lot because of caregiver guilt. I help people who serve in these capacities remember how to prioritize themselves, how to beat current burnout and guard against any future burnout, allowing them to love their work and thrive. I am known for providing practical somatic mindfulness and movement strategies that resolve energy depletion and help people feel like themselves again <i>in the first session</i>, able to be in service while maintaining their own wellness and optimal function.

I’m proud of myself for a lot of things but currently I’m proud of myself for following through on this pivot. It’s been quite a journey of extracting myself from the established system that provides mental health support to the general population to educating people in the community about mental health and optimal function using revolutionary self-development strategies.

What sets me apart is the method I use to teach others, HIKE4evolution, developed over the life’s work of my mentor and friend, Dr. Liana Mattulich who received her doctorate in Argentina at the age of 19, became a neuroscientist applying biofeedback and neurofeedback with patients in her home country, and who also studied many wisdom traditions some of which include South American Shamanism, Tibetan Buddhism, Zen Buddhism, Taoism, and Sufism. HIKE4evolution is a reflection of wisdom of the ages, is easy to learn, and easy to implement in 7 minutes of practice per day. This is where self-development gets fun.

Any big plans?
Yes, something New is coming… We are getting ready to launch a limited cohort for a select few therapist entrepreneurs who are ready to beat burnout so they can love their work, revolutionize their self-development and thrive in a changing world.

This learning cohort will include an option for supervision hours sign off for pre-licensed practitioners, and continuing education – independent study – for clinicians who are gathering hours and ready to level up by supplementing their current knowledge in the therapy field with cutting edge tools that are simple to learn and easy to use. Topics covered in the upcoming cohort include: Burnout Recovery, Energy Management, Energy Psychology, Parts Work, Somatic perspective, Mindfulness, Meditation, and Stress Management. This is an exciting and unique opportunity for those who are ready to tap into their superpowers and join the growing numbers of aligned servers. An invitation is open to entrepreneurial therapists: in a rapidly changing mental health ecosystem, become a therapist for the future.
