Life & Work with Allie Fogel

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Allie Fogel.

Allie Fogel

Hi Allie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Thanks so much for having me! I am a kids media host and content creator, a professional dancer and choreographer and also a casting and talent producer for major network TV shows like ABC’s American Idol. I am incredibly passionate about dance, and I love inspiring others to live joyfully through dance and movement.

Growing up, I was an avid competition dancer and got my very first professional dance job in college, performing at Walt Disney World. Upon graduating from the University of Georgia, I moved to LA, where I quickly booked the role of “Elmo” for Sesame Street Live’s national tour.

Being on tour was an incredible experience – I loved every minute of it, as it was the impetus that made me truly fall in love with performing for and creating for family audiences. On stage, I had the first-hand experience of bringing beloved characters to life and saw how impactful these amazing characters and stories were to all different people across the nation. Once the pandemic struck, my Sesame Street Live tour was canceled, and I had to create new opportunities for myself that would keep me dancing.

During the pandemic, I created my own socially distant, in-person dance classes called “Recess with Allie,” where I brought the magic of dance to kids and families across the metro Atlanta area. These classes were a huge success, and I ended up hiring a team of 5 other instructors to help teach. With that, I worked for several virtual educational kids’ companies, where I hosted and developed my own shows and virtual classes.

My experiences during the pandemic inspired me to create dance and movement content for young kids. That said, about a year ago, I created a YouTube channel called Al Pal, a channel that inspires kids to dream big and learn through the magic of movement. Al Pal features energizing, engaging, and interactive movement and learning videos that invite kids to move along with the on-screen action. From dance parties to learning adventures, every video features excitement that kids ages 3-7 will love.

With that, I also teach dance classes at Denver University’s Richie Center. These classes have become a quick on-campus favorite and safe space for students and members to have fun and dance like no one is watching. I also teach virtually for an amazing company called SitGrit, based out of NYC and partnered with Mt. Sinai Hospital. Keep an eye out for some fun summer pop up dance classes across town!

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Growing up I was the underdog, I was always in the back row of all my competition dancers and looked different from everyone else on the team.

It’s wild because I am one of the few who are still dancing professionally among a whole studio of hundreds of amazing dancers growing up. Perseverance, staying true to yourself, and following what lights you up is everything!

My Youtube Channel, Al Pal, is totally self-funded and self-produced – I even film everything myself. It’s been quite the journey over the past year and I am still learning so much day by day.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe you can tell us more about your work next?

I’d love for everyone to subscribe to my Youtube Channel, Al Pal, and help spread the word. I’m really looking to expand the reach of my channel and would love to do more collaborations with different schools and organizations across Denver and beyond.
