Life & Work with Anna Coen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Coen.

Anna Coen

Hi Anna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I got my first guitar when I was around 6 years old. The prodigy I was, I learned that aggressiveness was better than talent, and I broke all the strings within a few weeks.

Then the bones of that old guitar sat in my room for years and years until guitar class entered the scene when I was a young teenager. I fell in love with playing and creating music, and ever since then, I have not stopped.

Now, I am a singer-songwriter gigging around the Colorado Springs area. The songs I write are emotive and honest, and my favorite way to share them with the world is live.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This road has not been smooth. I have spent a lot of time being discouraged and afraid.

When opportunities weren’t showing up, I came close to quitting several times. I’m still on the journey, but I have learned to not only look for opportunities but also create them.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a singer singer-songwriter.

I specialize in creating emotional environments (weddings, yoga, etc.), and my passion is creating an environment where people feel they can remove masks and be at ease in their skin. I love honest performances where relatability and honesty are front and center.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve erred on the existential side of things. I have poems I wrote from when I was around the learning-to-write age about feeling out of place, misunderstood, and sad. As a young kid, I was obsessed with decorating things.

For a while, it was my Sunday ritual to rearrange my bedroom in as many creative ways as possible. I loved thinking outside of the box and figuring out new ways to fit the same furniture in the same room with a different flow (once I put the dresser in the center of the room…).
