Today we’d like to introduce you to Avizia Long.
Hi Avizia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m originally from the southeastern region of the United States. There I grew up in a small town until I went to college and began working in the triangle area of North Carolina. I continued my studies at the graduate level, which landed me in the Midwest. After completing my doctorate, I moved to and worked in several different locations – Pacific, Texas, and California. I moved to Denver from California to experience living in the mile-high city.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not! However, I do not regret or would not necessarily do anything differently because I am deeply aware of who I am and what I stand for. I’d say my biggest struggles have been in personal relationships and career.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I was trained as a linguist and I am a researcher by profession. I specialize in mixed methods research, that is, using both qualitative and quantitative data to address specific research objectives and explore human behavior, primarily regarding language use. I’d say I’m most proud of my analytical mindset, my openness to trying new methods, and my deep curiosity for human behavior, is what I believe set me apart from others.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I think something surprising would be that I have a big heart for animals.
