Today we’d like to introduce you to Benga Tribe.
Hello Benga Tribe, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I was about 7 years old, I didn’t think about “working” or a specific job but I knew I’d be wealthy! I’ve been cultivating my skills for many years now from writing, public speaking, dancing, singing, rapping, drawing, skateboarding, martial arts, etc.
I’ve participated in BAM academy internships, and I’ve taught dance and martial arts to children/adults. Last year I spent 7 months in LA studying and practicing music and art. I’ve scored a ton of opportunities to perform, speak, and contribute my art which has been an amazing blessing. Determination alone didn’t cut it but it opened doors!
Changing my family’s circumstances was a major goal for me as a first-generation African American and I am proud to be bringing financial freedom to my family. The most unorthodox turn was after high school I went to the military to take care of my mom and younger brother and between caring for them, and myself not giving up on everything was tough.
Money makes things easy but the passion for life doesn’t come from anything you don’t love doing! In preparation for becoming a veteran, I dropped my first major project “Love & Motivation” and I’ve never turned back! I’m currently working on a deluxe album for my previous project “Feelin Ah Way,” and I’ve found myself healing more, traveling, and experiencing my present in another way!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been far from smooth but nothing I didn’t ask for. Learning and getting into the music business during covid was not ideal. Understanding Marketing and people is two of the biggest parts of the business, shows were scarce, a lot of outside activities disappeared and the internet changed drastically in the last few years! I have always been in some shape or form in business so I’ve found plenty of ways to maneuver and keep myself patient amongst it all while finding my solutions.
Other than the business side I’ve struggled with my mental health for years I mediate and create music/art for therapy as well as some other things. I started making music during times I was depressed and I did take myself to therapy for a year and change. I’ve had a ton of bad investments, I’ve lost 4-7 films/videos from unprofessional videographers, and nobody is pushing you to come back on top of things when you run your operation! Being consistent changes your life but before that you’re battling all the odds.
Early this year January, I was laced with fentanyl after just finishing off 3 shows in December and I was arrested then hospitalized and then I went cold turkey during my recovery. I bounced back when nobody expected me to because I made it a mission to become the greatest version of me and that’s what it is about!
Thanks – So what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a multifaceted artist/entrepreneur; I’ve been creating, cultivating, and establishing my brand for a few years now. I specialize in writing hip-hop/rnb music and co-producing and I direct the majority of my music video(s)/films. I am proud of my recent performance last year. One of my biggest audiences was at “The Knitting Factory,” in NYC and I opened up for popular hip-hop artist “Sauce Walka” at Prive in NC.
While traveling, recording, and performing between and in the aftermath of covid I also established my business and started to sell exclusive samples of my brand. I am known for my fashion, music, motivational speaking, and art in general. What sets me apart is I am not competing I am enjoying my process and putting out incredible work.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
When I got to visit Denver I loved the mountains!
The weather reminds me of LA and I love the heat. There is also plenty of food, small shop businesses’ very fun place.
The altitude sickness is the worst, a few of my family members suffered from it when we were traveling.
