Life & Work with Billy Milton, Jr.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Billy Milton, Jr.

Billy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I, Billy W. Milton Jr, alongside my Co-Chair Candice Byrd, founded The Righteous Project Inc., a non-profit organization, in 2020 during the challenging Covid lockdown. Witnessing the surge in violence and the involvement of young kids in gang activities on the news deeply saddened us. We knew we had to take action and provide the youth in our Denver community with a different path.

Thus, we started The Righteous Project Inc. with a primary focus on promoting financial literacy and entrepreneurship. We believed that by increasing knowledge in these areas, we could empower our youth to make informed decisions and pursue their dreams. Since our inception, we have developed a comprehensive website offering online learning courses and college grant opportunities. We have also made a tangible impact by providing over 2,000 families with free school supplies, meals, and presents during the school year and holiday season. To further amplify our message, we are currently working on an app, publishing books, and hosting our podcast, “Legacy United: A Righteous Project Inc. Podcast.”

Through this platform, we invite local entrepreneurs and individuals with success stories to share their journeys and motivate others to strive for greatness. The Righteous Project Inc. serves as a beacon of hope, actively transforming lives and empowering the youth of our Denver community to build a brighter future.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a bumpy road for sure. Building a brand that others can trust is no easy task. It involves a lot of research, process improvements, marketing, waiting, failing, and succeeding.

We started during the Covid lockdown so it was easy for us to start with the digital aspect of the company. Virtual fundraising, etc. Fundraising and networking with sponsors come with hard work as well. We have grown a lot since 2020 and have seen many successful turnouts but we still have a long way to go.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Aside from being the Chair of The Righteous Project Inc. I am also a Manager at DirecTV with over 10 years of management experience. I earned my Bachelor’s in Management at the University Of Phoenix in 2021. I have a lovely wife with 3 wonderful children with another one on the way. I feel that I am very versatile in many areas.

I spent most of my younger years striving to be an audio engineer and have been able to get some of my music played on reality tv shows. I am most proud that our nonprofit organization is growing and being more recognized.

All of our resources are available on our website and are easy to use. We also have our Recurring donor program that offers great perks from our Merch store, in-person events, and exclusive access. Righteousproject.org.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
My ambition has taken me a long way. I love learning and figuring out new things. I know that everything doesn’t have to be perfect so most of the time, I can remove procrastination from my process.
