Life & Work with Bridget Burnett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridget Burnett.

Bridget Burnett

Hi Bridget, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been shooting photos for what seems like forever! I vividly remember the first time I thought of being a photographer. I was in my late teens and had an overwhelming urge to be creative, but my hand-eye coordination prevented me from being a painter or ceramicist.

One day, I was sitting in the park and thought to myself, “This park is beautiful and looks like a painting, and if I could just take a photo of it, this park would become tangible art.” – I got a camera later that year, started taking photos and never stopped. I’m not sure what kept me going all these years, but looking back, I believe it was passion.

Many years later, I feel so lucky to have turned my passion into my career. I truly love love, and that is why I decided to follow my dream of being a destination wedding photographer. I started my business while living in Denver in 2019 and have been shooting weddings ever since.

Most people wonder if 2020 was a horrible year for business, but I’m very grateful to have started my business right before COVID-19. It allowed me to start out shooting small intimate weddings that meant so much to people in such an uncertain time. Since then, I have shot 60+ weddings in Colorado and at different locations across the country and the world.

In 2023, I moved to San Francisco. I have always dreamed of living near the ocean, and I am in love with the city. It inspires me so much creatively. While Denver will always be home to my business, I’m thrilled to expand and start a new adventure in California.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As I mentioned before, starting my business right before COVID had some pros, but it also had some cons. It was such a stressful time for many people, and my heart ached for my clients who had to postpone or cancel their wedding.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a destination wedding photographer based in San Francisco. My work focuses on the connection between you and your partner and what has brought you to this moment—your story. I’m inspired by the now and those fleeting moments that only photographs can capture. I strive to create your story through images that evoke happiness and nostalgia, as well as capture those teeny moments you never knew were there.

Along the same lines, I feel honored to capture the most special moments in people’s lives, and I want to make a connection with my clients that goes beyond just their wedding day or photoshoot. I want to be their friend, someone they can trust and rely on without worry in the world!

While every wedding is special, I’m most proud of my destination weddings. I have been lucky enough to shoot in Italy, Mexico City, Charleston, and Mt. Rainier, to name a few. Traveling is so important to me, and it inspires me to be able to see new places and experience different cultures while documenting the story of my couples.

What matters most to you? Why?
Two things! Freezing moments in time. These are moments that you will never get to experience again. I want my photos to bring back every feeling, every touch, every tear, every laugh. I want my clients to be able to experience their day again and again through my photos. I want to create a safe space for my clients. Inclusivity is at the forefront of my business, and I believe that everyone deserves to have their story documented.
