Life & Work with Brittany Lucas of Libre Botanicals

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Lucas.

Hi Brittany, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
For most of my adult life, I struggled with mysterious health issues that left me feeling exhausted, dismissed, and frustrated. I went from doctor to doctor looking for answers, only to be told everything was “normal” — when deep down, I knew something wasn’t right. Eventually, I was diagnosed with thyroid disease, but it came after years of feeling unheard.

That experience lit a fire in me. I wanted to understand my body on a deeper level — especially my hormones — and explore ways to manage my health that were supportive, sustainable, and holistic. That search led me to herbal medicine, and it felt like coming home.

I enrolled in the Herbalism Roots program in Denver and earned my 500-hour certification through hands-on training with some of the most incredible teachers. We learned plant ID all over Colorado — from the mountains to urban neighborhoods — and I really fell in love with how accessible and alive herbal medicine is. It’s everywhere, if you know how to look.

Since then, I’ve made it my mission to share this knowledge with others — friends, family, clients — especially women who, like me, have felt overlooked or disempowered in conventional health spaces. Herbalism has become both a personal healing journey and a deep calling to help others reconnect with their bodies, their cycles, and the wisdom of the plants.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road — but in many ways, the struggles are what shaped my path the most.

One of the biggest challenges was simply being dismissed or not taken seriously in traditional healthcare settings. I spent years feeling like I was imagining my symptoms or being “too sensitive,” when in reality, I was living with an undiagnosed thyroid condition. That experience really took a toll on my trust — in the system, and even in myself.

When I finally got answers, I was relieved, but also frustrated. Why had it taken so long? And what else was being missed for other women like me?

Another challenge was learning to rebuild my relationship with my body — to go from frustration and confusion to curiosity and care. Herbalism helped me do that, but it wasn’t overnight. There was a lot of unlearning, a lot of trial and error, and a lot of sitting with discomfort.

Starting my herbal journey also came with its own growing pains — learning a completely different framework for health, taking in so much new knowledge, and realizing just how much I didn’t know. But it was also incredibly empowering. Every plant I studied, every blend I made, felt like a small reclamation of something I’d lost.

So no, it hasn’t been smooth — but every bump in the road led me closer to the work I’m meant to do.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I wear a few hats, and I think that blend of experience is exactly what makes my work unique.

By day, I work as a Field Consultant on the corporate side of a caregiving agency, where I support and guide 30 Operating Directors across the country to grow and improve their local branches. My roots are in direct senior care — I spent years as the Executive Director of a home care agency here in Denver, and that time taught me so much about business, community, and the deep importance of high-quality elder care.

I also earned a Bachelor’s degree in Health Care Management with a minor in Sales, which gave me a strong foundation in operations, strategy, and communication — all of which I now use daily.

But the heart of what I do — my why — is herbalism. After dealing with my own health struggles and feeling unseen in the traditional medical system, I was drawn to plant medicine and holistic healing. That curiosity led me to Herbalism Roots in Denver, where I completed a 500-hour clinical herbalist certification. It completely changed my life — and now I want to share that with others.

Libre Botanicals is my passion project — a space where I can educate, empower, and help people reconnect with their bodies and the healing power of plants. I specialize in women’s hormone health and stress support, and I love making things approachable, grounded, and backed by both lived experience and formal training.

I’m also the founder of the Denver Healthcare Alliance, a networking group of nearly 2,000 senior care professionals in the area. We connect, share resources, and collaborate to improve care for the aging population — something I care about deeply.

What I’m most proud of is that everything I do — whether it’s herbalism, business consulting, or community building — is rooted in the same values: compassion, curiosity, and service. I love helping people feel seen, supported, and stronger — whether that’s through a cup of tea, a care plan, or a connection.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happiest are the simple, grounding moments — spending time with my loved ones and my sweet pup Moose, sharing a meal I cooked from the garden, or walking in nature and feeling completely present.

I also find deep joy in educating others on how to feel their best — whether it’s through herbalism, holistic wellness, or just sharing what I’ve learned through my own healing journey. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about helping someone reconnect with their body or discover a plant that truly supports them.

Whether I’m hiking, doing yoga, gardening, or just laughing with friends, it all comes down to connection — with myself, the earth, and the people around me. Those are the moments that ground me and remind me of why I do what I do.
