Life & Work with Cameron Connolly

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Connolly.

Cameron, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It has been a long journey to get where I am today. It started young I’ve always been into customizing and drawing on my clothes and motocross gear. Motocross at a young age of 9 gave me the freedom to choose my gear and bike and make my own outfits. That led into high school I really got into fashion new clothes and matching outfits. at the end of high school, I started my first clothing brand Karismatik! Me and a friend did that for a few years before we split ways around age 21.

Fast forward to age 23 I, unfortunately, was diagnosed with cancer. It was a scary situation. I had to big surgeries and luckily two months later was on the mend. I’m super grateful to be healthy and cancer-free 6 years later. Right after cancer, I was battling depression, I was burying what I had just gone through. I was abusing alcohol and drugs to bury the situation which started to affect my life. Getting sober was on my mind

During this time the idea to Start Sliv Life arised. I was looking for another clothing brand to start on my own. So, I decided to take the chance and had Sliv Life t-shirts made. I sold clothes live at my brother (project aspect) concert and the day after I quit drinking alcohol and have been sober from alcohol for 5 years now and sober from drugs for 3! Sliv life has been around for 5 years and I’m very proud of that! It took a while to evolve the idea. A Sliv of your life is one day, try to enjoy each day. Sliv life to the fullest. Work hard towards your goals, dreams, and the things you love!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been an extremely fun but challenging road to make clothes for 5 years as Sliv life! Life in a whole has many ups and downs and that also comes with being a business owner and creative. It has been fairly smooth road; I’ve learned so much in the last few years and I try to apply that and learn from things.

Putting out content consistently over a long time takes time to learn and adjust it. That’s one of the biggest challenges is social media, sometimes I feel like it’s a battle with algorithms or whatever it is to reach my audience. It has a lot of ups and downs. I try to just have fun and stick to my roots and create what I like and experiment and come up with new things all the time. Being creative helps keep me sober and on the right path so I pour my hear into my creativity.

Handling all this workload on my own for 5 years has been tough. I have been doing concrete work seasonally full time and then go home and make clothes. I do everything myself, make clothes, ship, edit pics, website, content, video edit, shop I do it all myself and that is the biggest challenge. Finding help so that way I can focus on the clothes. It’s gotten so busy I’m trying to transition to full-time making clothes and part-time concrete. This winter has been very challenging working from home trying to make it all work. I’m staying positive and always learning and adapting from mistakes.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Well, I’d say my brand is known for its vibrant wild pattern custom jeans. I make all 1 of 1 clothes customized and made by hand. No manufactures the last 5 years. My Sliv Jeans have been around for 3 years now. I’ve made well over 1000 different jeans and customs. I’ve dressed many music artist and celebrities. Juice wrld owned and performed in Sliv Life jeans, Billie Eillish owns Sliv jeans, MGK owns and performed in Sliv Jeans and Jacket. The list goes on and on and I’m forever grateful for those opportunities and achievements. I also Cut up and re-sew together hoodies and all kinds of stuff. I make custom hats and ski masks gloves everything is unique handmade 1 of 1 with love. It’s my goal to remind people through my clothes to Sliv their lives to the fullest!

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I’d say mainly routine and hard work. I pour my heart into this all the time. I’d rather work hard on clothes than work hard doing concrete.
