Life & Work with Crystal Rojas Vargas of Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Rojas Vargas.

Hi Crystal, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My creative journey began in the middle of my second pregnancy (oh sweet Covid baby). I’m a nurse by trade, and during the height of the pandemic, working long, grueling shifts while the world shut down, I realized something my creative spark had dwindled. While I’ve always loved the medical field, something shifted after I became a mother. Between the demands of motherhood, my job, and the isolation of a global crisis, I felt dull. Which if you know me, I out of character. There’s something about motherhood that really highlights the parts of us we must fight to maintain.

But here’s the beautiful part, God knows the desires of our hearts. One night, I offered up a long, honest, desperate prayer asking for vibrance, passion, and color in my life. I asked and He answered.

Just a few weeks later, I finally attended a photography workshop I had purchased months earlier—one that had been postponed due to COVID. It was in person, and something clicked. I became instantly obsessed (hyperfixated for sure), and from that point forward, I dove headfirst into the world of photography and haven’t looked back.

About a year into my journey, I felt another shift. The shifts and twists kept coming! I knew it was time to align my business with my faith and allow my creativity to fully run rampant. That shift led me to my niche (brand photography for colorful, creative entrepreneurs) and then spiraled into so many other facets.

Who would have guessed that five years later, I’d be not only call myself a “photographer” but also building brand identity for brands, creating AI art, and launching e-courses? That one prayer opened a door to a creative world I didn’t even know existed inside me. I thank God for that daily.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been “smooth” but it hasn’t been rough either. It has been as it should be. Every hard business lesson or awkward conversation has taught me something vital to being a business owner, a faith based one at that.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a photographer, mentor, artists and educator! My niche is in branding as I have a real ability to not only photograph brands but to help them dive deeper into their overall brand identity through a service called “brand mapping”. I am known for the color iridescent, bold colors. I love to put an ethereal spin on my own creative projects. What sets me apart from others is my creative eye–it’s innate.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I have so many! I really love the memories I have of random midwestern summer thunderstorms. My parents and I would sit on the front porch swing and just watch it downpour. Sitting in the chaos of my environment felt totally peaceful to me… and still does. Rain will always be my favorite weather.
