Life & Work with Dane Rauschenberg of Greenwood Village

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dane Rauschenberg.

Hi Dane, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m best known for racing 52 marathon races in 52 consecutive weekly marathons, while working a full-time job in a patent licensing agency and raising money with that endeavor for an organization that works with the mentally and physically challenged. I never expected to making the running industry or anything involved with it my life, even while doing the 52 marathon feat. But the old adage is you can make God laugh by telling him your plans, or something like that. Before I knew it, my previous trajectory of interviewing for various governmental agencies hoping to make our country safer had me moving to Utah to begin working extremely briefly for a running company. Soon thereafter I began speaking and writing about my experiences in the racing and running, fed by not only my own adventures but the people I met along the way. All of that led to me, over the course of many years, to creating Sherpa, the on-demand app which safely pairs runners and walkers with their own personalized guide. With out launch coming very soon nationwide, I hope to be a 20-year overnight success story.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’d like to meet the person who has had a smooth road so I can not-so-secretly loathe them. But no, obstacles from the personal to the, how you say, global pandemic, have made the trip a bit bumpy.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have Gilbert’s Syndrome which is a liver disorder that is described a harmless but what it does is make it very difficult to recover from strenuous activity. In other words, my claim to fame of being really good at running relatively fast marathons in a short span of time, is something I should not be able to do. As such, my motto to Ignore The Impossible (also the title of my latest book) rings true. Even if it is likely we cannot accomplish something, that shouldn’t stop us from attempting to do so.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Making people laugh. It’s a superpower. To be able to make someone, almost against their own wishes, be happy and express that outwardly is truly the most fun thing I can think anyone can do.
