Today we’d like to introduce you to Donna Hunsinger.
Hi Donna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Kid Gloves is a moving company that specializes in helping seniors through one of life’s most difficult transitions. The business was originally founded in 2007 by a husband-and-wife team known for their compassion and care.
Before we purchased the company in 2021, Chad and I had both spent years working in senior living — he was a Facilities Director, and I was a Business Director in a Senior Living Community. We supported residents and families every day and saw firsthand how emotional these transitions could be. We also knew we wanted to serve in a deeper, more hands-on way. We just didn’t know what that would look like — until Kid Gloves offered the answer.
Years earlier — before Chad and I were even together as a couple — the original owners had approached him about taking over the business someday. They saw something in him: someone with steady presence, deep empathy, and a real understanding of the senior population. The idea stayed on the back burner.
Then, just as Chad and I got engaged, they reached out again. They were ready to retire and asked if he was still interested. He was. And so was I.
We took over the business in 2021 and have run it as a husband-and-wife team ever since.
Today, Kid Gloves serves families across the Front Range and beyond. We handle local residential moves, full packing and unpacking, cleanouts, downsizing, and long-distance relocations. Our true focus — and calling — is guiding seniors into new living communities with care, dignity, and patience.
“Kid gloves” is an old phrase our clients instantly recognize — it means to treat something with gentleness and respect. And that’s exactly what we do. Every move we handle is personal. Every item matters. Every client deserves to feel safe, heard, and at peace with what comes next.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Running a business like this is deeply rewarding — but no, it hasn’t always been smooth.
One of the biggest challenges has been growth. Our reputation is everything, and protecting it means being selective about who we bring on. This work takes more than just physical strength — although that’s part of it. It also requires patience, emotional awareness, and the ability to read a room. That mix isn’t impossible to find, but it takes time and intention to build a team that can move with both care and confidence.
Balance is another constant challenge. As a husband-and-wife team, we handle everything — from logistics and scheduling to client communication and the moves themselves. And because we care so deeply about the people we serve, it’s hard to say no. We’ve had to learn how to protect our time and energy without ever compromising the standard of care we’re known for.
The work can also be mentally and emotionally demanding. Many of our clients are navigating difficult transitions — downsizing, declining health, dementia, grief, or family strain. These aren’t always easy moves. There’s often fear, resistance, or sadness layered into the process. And when we walk into that space, we don’t just move belongings — we walk alongside people at a major turning point in their lives. That carries a weight of its own.
But it’s also what makes this work worth doing. When families trust us to help in moments like that, we know we’re exactly where we’re supposed to be.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At its surface, we’re a moving company — but in reality, a lot of what we do is far more personal than logistical. The people we serve are often facing some of the hardest decisions of their lives. Many are downsizing after decades in the same home. Others are transitioning into senior living under difficult circumstances. Emotions are high, and the process can feel overwhelming.
That’s where we come in.
We specialize in guiding seniors and their families through these transitions with care, clarity, and compassion. We handle the packing, the heavy lifting, the cleanouts — but just as often, we’re helping calm anxieties, bridge family dynamics, or give someone the confidence to let go of a home full of memories.
Chad and I are known for our steadiness. We don’t rush people. We take time to listen. We speak directly to the person who’s moving — not just their adult children or case manager — and we make sure they feel included, not sidelined. When someone has lived in a home for 40 years, they deserve more than an efficient move. They deserve dignity.
What I’m most proud of is how often we’re trusted in moments that feel fragile. We’ve had clients hug us at the end of the day with tears in their eyes. That’s when we know we did more than move furniture.
What sets us apart is how we show up — calm, warm, prepared, and intuitive. We read the room. We adapt. We hold space when it’s needed, and we take charge when it’s time. It’s a strange thing to say, but I think we bring dignity to moving. And in this line of work, that’s everything.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
The best way to support us is to refer us. Most of our work comes from word-of-mouth — families we’ve helped, senior communities we partner with, real estate professionals, and others who’ve seen firsthand how we care for people during difficult transitions.
We’re often called when no one knows what to do next. That includes overwhelmed adult children, families in crisis, and even professionals from Adult Protective Services navigating especially sensitive situations. We’re proud to be the call people make when the move requires more than just manpower.
We can be reached by phone or through the contact form on our website. And when someone shares our name with a friend, a colleague, or a family in need — that’s the highest compliment we can receive.
This work is intimate. It requires trust. If you’re looking for a moving company that sees the person behind the boxes, that’s exactly who we are.
