Today we’d like to introduce you to Drew Dvorchak.
Hi Drew, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
My story to this point with music wasn’t necessarily a normal path as Music came into my life a lot later on than most folks. For most of my youth, I was super involved in sports playing everything ranging from football, baseball, golf, water polo, and swimming. I ended up receiving a scholarship to swim at the University of Missouri and swam there for all 4 years I was in college. I was nominated team captain of the team my senior year, which was a huge honor and a major highlight for my sports career.
Having said that, everything must end at some point and following college, I moved back home to the Chicagoland area and pretty much hit rock bottom. I just wasn’t myself without a sport to pursue and had a major void in my life. One day, I luckily just decided to pick up the guitar and teach myself as much as I could. I almost immediately started writing my songs and instantly knew this songwriting and music would be a huge part of who I am for the rest of my life.
Fast forward to now, only 5 years after picking up the guitar and I front my band, the Drew Dvorchak Band, which plays all my original music and we have been regularly touring the Rocky Mountain Region just for the better part of the last 2 years. Over the last year, we have been able to play and headline many of Denver’s best venues, such as Globe Hall & the Mercury Cafe.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For the most part, since I first dove into music everything has progressed in an upward direction very steadily and I honestly could not be more excited about where I currently am at and what is ahead of me. Having said that, for almost two years I struggled to find a consistent band. What the struggle came down to was the people I wanted in my band had at least one, but typically several, other projects/bands they were already involved in.
The scheduling issues made it practically a revolving door of musicians in the Drew Dvorchak Band for a pretty decent period. However, nowadays, I have formed a solid core for the group consisting of Steven Huntley, Kalel Vigil & myself. We still haven’t fully found a drummer who has been able to play with us 100% of the time, but over the better part of the last year, we have been stoked playing with Mike Dooley and Hayden Bosch on drums.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a songwriter, singer, and guitarist. I would say as of late I have been most known for my band, the Drew Dvorchak Band, which has played most of Denver’s most famous venues over the last year. Our shows are super fun and full of energy as we have relatively gravitated into the jam band genre. I still would call us a blues rock band, however, our influences from the Grateful Dead, Goose, Disco Biscuits, etc really shine in our live shows.
With that being said, there was a solid couple of years when I first moved to Colorado when I was only playing solo shows. At this time and in the solo artist setting, I feel like my songwriting was most notable. I am very proud of the songs I wrote and the words within the songs that the band has been able to create. I just released my most recent single in January 2024, called “Someone Like You.”
This will be a part of my upcoming EP titled “Voodoo Blue.”
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Persistence. Especially in the music industry.
There are going to be so many things that don’t go your way with music whether it’s booking gigs, or bandmates canceling last minute. On top of that, there are so many things that can go wrong in a live show that is out of your control, let alone all the things that can go wrong that you can control.
The point is if you want to pursue music, you have to be resilient and tough and learn to roll with the punches.
