Life & Work with Emilie Leazier of Fort Collins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emilie Leazier.

Hi Emilie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started photography back in 2019, pulling anyone in front of my camera. It wasn’t until I went to college and furthered my education in film and communications that I wanted to turn this into a business. I did my first wedding in 2023 and fell in love with the possibilities. I have been able to travel all around Colorado to capture love stories, and every time, it gets better and better.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There is no handbook! No one will tell you exactly how to go about a situation and that’s liberating and also intimidating at the same time. Starting out, I relied on the community in Fort Collins. I have been so fortunate to make real, meaningful relationships with other small businesses and wedding vendors in the Northern Colorado area.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Throughout my life, I’ve always had an urge to pull out a camera to document it. I needed to remember the feeling. The way the light looked as it set on the side of the house, how my cousin laughed when my dad told a joke, how happy my best friend looked when she danced, all of it. All of life’s moments cannot be captured, but I have spent my entire life wanting to freeze time to remember the feeling.

Everything I know about entrepreneurship comes from my grandmother. Her mind is a treasure trove. She’s taught me to bring people hand-written notes and fresh flowers just because and never tolerate anyone who makes you feel less than worthy.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was always creating or running a business. I would start up a restaurant gig in the Summer, be a fashion designer in the Fall, somehow get into running a spa in the Winter and so on. I always had another idea up my sleeve, and the creative process of being in charge excited me.
