Today we’d like to introduce you to Evan Branson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been interested in photography for most of my life. I really found my love for it in high school when I got my first 35mm. Around the same time my family began scuba diving and following after my father became very interested in dive photography.
I spent all of my life working in various restaurants and bars and received a ba from Metro University Denver in hotel tourism and events management. At school I also found a passion for the wine industry and after school I went to work for one of the largest wine and liquor distributors in Colorado. I love working with people and using my knowledge and experience to help them build successful bars and restaurants.
Then covid-19 hit and absolutely decimated the bar and restaurant industry. About a month before the first lockdowns in Colorado my wife and I celebrated the news that she was pregnant with our first child.
I became a full-time stay-at-home dad and we just welcomed our third child in July of this year.
Shortly after our first child was born I began to try to turn my passion for photography into a business. My photography is emotive documentary style as I love capturing the true moments that people cherish their entire lives.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Nothing worth doing is ever easy. Transitioning to being a full-time stay-at-home parent and starting a new business at the same time was extremely difficult. I needed to spend an incredible amount of learning how to bring my photography up to a professional level. Including going back to school to learn editing and other professional photography skills.
I have never really used social media and learning how to use it and apply it to marketing my photography business’s has been a real challenge for me.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have done many different styles and types of photography but my favorite is emotive documentarian Style. I love to capture candid real moments of people together and enjoying the special moments in life. For my family photography business I offer special shoots like the “It’s Bedtime” where I capture families doing their bedtime routine. Parents love to capture the fleeting memories of reading stories and the bedtime routine. I also offer the “Let’s go fly a Kite” Colorado is an absolutely amazing and beautiful landscape and I have a couple of shooting locations that I love to use where the family can go on a short hike, have a picnic, and fly a kite. This is another one of my custom photo shoots where families get to capture those amazing times while children are young and they are experiencing everything for the first time.
I love doing family portraits, engagement photos, maternity, and newborn photography as well. I feature a special pose in newborn photography that I call “Cradling New Life” the parents and any of their family or friends are invited to pose holding the new addition and using a technique that I designed I photograph Only the hands holding the baby and the final images are put together as a collage.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I am an avid Outdoorsman/ conservationist and spend as much time in the wilderness of Colorado with my family as possible.
