Today we’d like to introduce you to Gladys Gonzalez Lopez.
Gladys, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started off with a camera my then-boss gave to me. She saw how passionate I was about capturing moments for everyone. She handed me the camera and said “ Go and make a career and live your dream”. I took it and did exactly that. I won’t lie, it wasn’t easy. I am completely self-taught. It was a lot of trial and error. Anger, disappointment, frustration. I had it all and sometimes still do.
But I didn’t give up. I still learn, and I will always be learning. This year I stepped out even more from my comfort zone and created a Modeling Team. For 6 months we shot different themes and created magic. I was scared to fail, but I can proudly say that I surprised myself. I took a leap of faith and it has paid off.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, there have been moments where I didn’t edit someone’s skin tones correctly, where they were too orange or too pink, or too dark.
Sometimes I shot way too grainy and the images looked awful. I thank all my clients because they provided me with so much grace when I began. I wouldn’t have booked myself! But they did and for that, I am beyond thankful. It leads me to more growth.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
So I am a wedding/lifestyle photographer. However, I recently began shooting more creative, styled sessions with individual models. Creating themes and styling them. This has been a breath of fresh air.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
To never compare me to anyone else or their journey or even how long it took for them to get there. There are some photographers that have barely started and within a year they are at my level. Something that took me 7 years.
However, I have learned that my journey is mine and theirs is for them. And that’s ok.
