Life & Work with Janell Oubre of Falcon Colorado

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janell Oubre.

Hi Janell, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my journey in 2019 to got to cosmetology school. Before my husband and I married I was a single mom to a teenager and a toddler so restaurant manager was as far as I could get without an education of some kind. When he and I moved in together I decided I wanted to do something different. I started right before the pandemic and finished during. School was tough because as Covid students we had to follow restrictions and we were not in class for 8 hours with tons of clients to practice on. We got 3 hours a day, 4 days a week and could do one or two clients a day. I ended up getting a part time job at a beauty supply store to get more experience with products. I learned so much at Elysian salon in falcon and went out on my own in 2024. In 2025 I won best of the springs, best hair salon. I have done continuing education since my start at Elysian and still strive to be my best. I love what I do and even though I started doing hair at 39 I finally found out what I want to be when I grow up!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I had a bit of a struggle in the beginning but the second salon I worked at was amazing with helping me get my barring and helping me come into my own.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed cosmetologist and I love all things hair. I use to do everything, and still have requests for all types of color and chemical services, like perms and smoothing treatments. I specialize in extensions, blondes, and lived in looks.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Nikki Lee, with Elysian salon, and her management team Tony and Toni. They are an amazing group of people to work for. They were so supportive of me at every turn. Riley Skelton was a mentor and teacher in school and he turned into a fiend.
