Life & Work with Jordan Kellerman

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Kellerman.

Jordan Kellerman

Hi Jordan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have worked in Public Relations/Communications for over fifteen years. I started in a non-profit, and I loved it. I worked there for about eight years, and it was one of the best experiences I have ever had. I learned a lot and made a lot of connections.

I started a “side project” (this one) after the birth of my first child in 2017 because I wanted more flexibility as a parent. Today, Rollie Creative is all I do, and I have two main clients, both universities in the Denver metro area.

Both work on improving lives in different ways, which checks a box for me that I am working with them for something bigger. I am fortunate that people have believed in my work ethic and respected my boundaries so that I can succeed in my job and life as a mom.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some people thought I was crazy that I wanted more balance when I had kids. A few people told me I was ruining my career. And some blatantly tried to stand in my way. But, enough people DID believe in me.

My partner supported me (imagine calling your spouse, with a six-month-old at home, and telling him you need to quit your job, with not a lot lined up?!), and I have had amazing people who encouraged me. I also have faith, and it has helped when I felt unsure if this was the right path.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I write in PR a lot. I write about really high-level topics and sometimes feature stories and sometimes media releases for global attention. But my favorite is really talking to the person behind the story. I love to find out what makes people tick.

I work with people who spend their days researching one thing or another, and finding that thing to humanize them, to take them out of the lab or out of the library and make them and their work relatable, is something I enjoy.

Do you have any advice for those just starting?
Keep being curious. Ask your friends in the field, meet someone for coffee, and ask for advice. I am always learning something new. Don’t ever let anyone make you feel silly for asking questions.
