Life & Work with June Tsao of long island city

Today we’d like to introduce you to June Tsao.

Hi June, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Transitioning from a fashion designer to the medical aesthetics industry was quite an interesting twist. At the time, I was in the process of launching my own handbag brand while also gaining experience in the service industry. By chance, I met my current partner,an architecture graduate with his own professional renovation team. He not only provided venue resources but also saw great potential in the medical aesthetics sector, inviting me to start the business together.

I first underwent systematic theoretical study and obtained professional certifications, while conducting extensive market research, analyzing the profiles of local customer groups, studying successful cases, and keeping abreast of industry trends. During the preparation phase, I invited many friends to experience our services, continuously adjusting service details based on their feedback, and they also helped us with a lot of word of mouth promotion.
When selecting equipment, I personally tested each product to verify its effectiveness and delved into the scientific principles behind it. Every service item was carefully designed and refined repeatedly. In terms of recruitment, I interviewed each candidate individually, our technicians either have over six years of practical experience or are instructors at professional training institutions, boasting solid professional skills. I think I got lucky I can have all of the team members join us. I love my team.

In the early days of the business, the technicians focused solely on technical services, while my partner and I took charge of all operational work. He has a knack for business operations and, leveraging his architectural background, enabled us to efficiently complete everything from signing the lease to opening the store in a short time. Although we didn’t start as medical-aesthetics majors, we evolved rapidly, collecting company certifications, undergoing rigorous training, and putting in countless hours of practice to reach the level of professionalism we have today. Starting from working seven days a week managing all daily operations on my own while also performing laser treatments for clients , we’ve now grown into a team of 15. Every step of our growth is inseparable from the support of friends and the trust of our customers.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Most of the challenges came from having to make every decision on my own. Whether it was about operations or services, I often had to rely only on the limited cases and experiences I already had. Without guidance, every choice felt heavier, and every mistake was a lesson learned the hard way.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I run Skin Philosophy, where we specialize in advanced facials and laser treatments—but what we’re truly known for is our service. Clients trust us because we are sincere, honest, and completely dedicated to helping them achieve the skin they want. In a time when information online is overwhelming and often misleading, many clients come to us after trying products or treatments that weren’t suitable for their skin. Our role is not just to treat their skin, but to guide them through the noise and bring them back to what’s actually right for them.

To protect our clients and ensure the best results, we have a very detailed intake process. Before any treatment, we carefully review their skincare routine, the products they use, medications they’re taking, and any recent procedures. Then we conduct an in-depth consultation to understand their concerns and goals, and we create a precise, personalized treatment plan.

What sets us apart is this combination of sincerity, expertise, and responsibility. We never push unnecessary services—we focus on what will truly help. Our clients know we care about them, not just their appointments, and that we’re committed to walking with them until they reach the skin they envision.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
When it comes to risk, I’ve learned that building a business is one continuous series of choices where nothing is guaranteed. I don’t see myself as someone who takes reckless risks—but I do take intentional ones. Every major step I’ve taken came from a place of believing in the long-term vision more than fearing the short-term uncertainty.

Opening Skin Philosophy was one of the biggest risks I’ve ever taken. I didn’t come from a medical-aesthetics academic background, so I had to invest heavily in training, certifications, equipment, and renting my first space—all while working seven days a week and running everything by myself. Financially, emotionally, and physically, it was a huge leap. But I told myself: if I can master the skills, provide honest service, and treat every client with sincerity, the business will grow. And it did.

Our second upcoming location near Grand Central is another major risk. It’s a completely different concept—a five-sense healing space—and creating something new always carries uncertainty. There is no template to follow, no guarantee the market will understand it immediately. But I believe innovation comes from taking the risk to create what doesn’t exist yet.

To me, risk is about intention:
Don’t take risks for excitement; take them because they bring you closer to the person you want to become or the business you want to build.
I accept risks that come with hard work, learning, and growth. The ones that force me to level up. And every time I’ve chosen courage over comfort, it has opened doors I couldn’t imagine before.
