Today we’d like to introduce you to Karina Terrazas
Hi Karina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Art had always been a strong suite for me. Since very young I was very inclined to become some kind of artist. Painter was my dream when I was in elementary school but then soon discovered into my high school years that cosmetology school was going to be the route I would take. I was always that cousin/friend that would glam everyone for special occasions from prom to weddings and quinceañeras. And come to find out I was darn good at ti. Growing up my mom always cut my siblings, dad and my hair, so you could say the drive and skill ran in the family. Having to raise 5 kids all on her own back in our home country of Mexico while my dad was in the US making a living for them, my mom never able to fulfill her dreams of becoming a hair stylist. It was when I discovered this that pushed me even harder to fulfill her dreams thru mine. Seeing me graduate from beauty college was one one of my mother’s proudest moments, being that I was the only one of my siblings that attended any type of college education. A few years after getting my official license in cosmetology and later then starting my business, my parents both fell ill. Taking care of them and seeing their struggles and pain I gained a profound understanding of the importance of compassion and giving back. This realization has fueled my passion to connect with clients on a deeper level, going beyond the surface to understand their unique stories and desires.. Making compassion and empathy the core focus of my business, Blush Beauty which came to life in early 2015. Through my work, I strive to uplift and empower every individual who walks through my doors.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road at all. Like I mentioned before, after my parents fell ill I had to make major sacrifices and put my business on pause to care for them. At that time I was also a SAHM to my two babies, making it almost impossible to bring any focus to my business at all. Unfortunately they both passed, leaving me with not knowing whether to continue on with many business. Luckily I’ve had unconditional support from husband. He has pushed me to rediscover my passion and constantly reminds me to never give up on myself.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed cosmetologist & permanent makeup artist specializing in makeup artistry, women haircuts and permanent makeup ex. microblaing, ombre brows etc. I am most proud of how much of a variety of services I am able to offer to my clients and how far I have come in my career despite the set backs. During any of my services I strive to make that human to human connection. That is what I think sets me apart for other service providers in the same field. Having gone thru the life experience of losing both of my parents had definitely changed my view life and has shown me how I am here to change others lives. It can be as simply as them coming to see for a brow wax and they share a frustration and I am there to listen. I all about making connections and empathy towards my clients.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I see taking a risk as an investment to yourself, professionally or personally because no matter what risk you take it will always change, shape or transform to something better.
