Life & Work with Khrysys Mason of Charlotte North Carolina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Khrysys Mason.

Hi Khrysys, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my content creation journey back in 2017, right when influencers were having their moment. At the time, I was going through a major life transition and needed an outlet—something just for me. I’ve always loved makeup, skincare, fashion—really, all things beauty—so I figured, why not give it a shot?

In the beginning, I joined a ton of platforms and communities. I’d try out anything I could afford that caught my eye, just to see what worked, what didn’t, and to share my honest thoughts. Along the way, I made a lot of cyber connections—some I’ve had the chance to meet in real life, some I haven’t, and others I may never meet because, well, life happens.

Creating content became more than just a hobby—it’s my therapy. Whether I’m playing with new products, experimenting with color, recreating a look, or putting my spin on something trending, it’s my way of recharging. It’s my self-care.

Balancing content creation with everything else in life has been a challenge lately, but I’m looking forward to getting back into the groove and creating consistently again soon.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. In the beginning, everything felt like it revolved around numbers—follower count, views, likes—it all depended on the platform. I actually started with YouTube, but I quickly realized how challenging that space can be. Then I shifted more toward Instagram, where engagement and likes were the main currency.

Facebook was more about friends and follows, and now it’s become a hybrid space. Instagram has ended up being my biggest platform in terms of numbers, so that’s where I focus most of my energy. Since it connects directly to Facebook, it feels like a win-win.

TikTok… I’m still figuring that one out. It’s fun, but it comes with its own learning curve. With so many platforms to keep up with, it can get a little exhausting trying to stay consistent across the board. But I’m learning to pace myself and give grace where I can.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Currently, I’m working as a Diagnostic Coordinator for an ABA therapy company, and I’m loving it so far. As a parent to two incredible neurodivergent individuals—who also happen to be what I’m most proud of—this role feels deeply personal and meaningful to me.

In my position, I coordinate diagnostic appointments for families going through autism evaluations, and I also serve as an interpreter for Spanish-speaking families when needed. Being able to support families during such a pivotal moment, especially those navigating language barriers, is something I truly value.

Outside of work, I’ve been married to my amazing husband for almost 25 years—we’ll celebrate 25 this October! I was born in the Dominican Republic and raised in the Bronx, NY, which shaped my passion, perspective, and love for community.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like most about living in Charlotte, NC—especially as a New Yorker at heart—is that it’s not as hectic or fast-paced as NYC, but it still gives me that city vibe. There are tons of restaurants, cool places to eat, and new spots to explore, which I love.

What I *don’t* love? It *never* snows! I’m a snow girl through and through, and Charlotte just doesn’t deliver on that. I miss the snow days and cozy winter vibes for sure.
