Life & Work with Koral Cordova

Today we’d like to introduce you to Koral Cordova.

Koral Cordova

Hi Koral, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I started boards by Koral because I wanted to do something that I loved but that also gave me the ability to stay home with my then one-year-old. After having my son, I decided not to return back to my original job within the Douglas County school district because I wanted to be a stay-at-home mom.

After taking the first year to be with my son, I decided it was time to start something that I had always had a passion for. Charcuterie boards are such a creative outlet and they revolve around bringing people together. I had always made charcuterie boards in the past for family and friends, and any event that I attended and I decided that it was time to share them with the Denver metro area community!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think the biggest struggle when switching from a teaching position within a school district to a small business is trying to balance the amount of time that you dedicate between your home/personal life and your business. It’s very easy to focus a lot of your time on your business whenever your work is at home. When you are an independent business owner with no other employees, it can feel like you have to take on multiple roles that sometimes the days just don’t feel long enough.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At Boards by Koral, I create custom charcuterie, boards, cups, and grazing tables. My most ordered product is a bridal board that is offered in multiple sizes. These are most popular among the Denver brides for bridal showers or to have in their bridal suite while getting ready on the day of.

I am most proud of just creating my business and getting it up and running. This is one of the first things that I’ve ever done that was completely on my own and dependent on how hard I decided to work, and what I put into it.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I think the biggest thing that I want readers to know is that if you can choose to support a small business, especially here in Colorado in your own community, please do. Almost all small businesses have products that are created by bigger companies that can easily be substituted, but just remember at the end of the day those small businesses have created their product with love and passion for what they do.
