Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Owens.
Hi Kristin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hi, I am Kristin Owens, owner and operator of CowBoss Creations LLC. I am a ranch wife and my husband and I have two wonderful kids. The western life style was introduced to me about 14 years ago when my husband and I started dating. I quickly fell in love with it and I am so grateful to be raising our kids in this lifestyle. I started CowBoss Creations after having our son. Western clothing can be expensive, especially for kids who are growing quickly. So I decided instead of going broke staying up with the trends, I would start making my own clothes. In 2021 I bought my first heat press and printer and starting making shirts with sublimation printing! From there I have added in other forms of printing, embroidery, and laser engraving. This little hobby to stay up with the trends has become a full time business which has given me so many freedoms. Its been a huge blessing being able to; be present with my kids and make it to their events, help my husband with the cows we raise and manage, and set my own schedule.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road to where I am today, has definitely had its bumps and curves but each one has lead to new successes! In 2023 when I added embroidery to my business, the road got very bumpy. Learning a new trade, especially one with a machine as tall as I am was pretty scary. I had some great help along the way, who always answered my calls and helped me through the tears of frustration. The road continues with bumps and curves, which in the end I am very grateful for because it has lead me to some amazing people who have made this small business possible.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Embroidery is my specialty, I have been blessed to work with big businesses such as Lemons Heating and Cooling branding merch, to a local salon Shae Suites creating fun hats and sweatshirts for the Shae Babes, to a grandma who wants a last name added to a hand towel for a wedding gift. I enjoying helping my customers capture and bring their visions to life!
My favorite thing to create with embroidery, are my memory sweatshirts! I take onesies, shirts, blankets or other memorable fabrics from families and turn them into a special sweatshirt they can wear and remember times with loved ones in. My most popular memory sweatshirt is created with memorable onesies. Family members provide me with their favorite onesies their kiddos wore, and I put them into the word “MAMA” or “GRAMMY” ect. Once I even took the lace of a wedding dress and put it onto a sweatshirt in the word “WIFEY.” I’ve recently turned this western, by taking peoples cattle brands and turning them into an applique. I can add western fabric, or I have had people provide me with shirts that loved ones who have passed once wore.
I really believe in making my products reasonable and giving back! I have been able to do many projects for school’s and teachers across Colorado including their sporting teams, our 4H program, CSU’s Rodeo Team and our local fire department.
