Life & Work with Lacey Vandermeer of Denver

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacey Vandermeer.

Hi Lacey, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi! I’m Lacey, the person behind the camera.

Today, I specialize in branding and family photography, but my journey began with weddings. I was drawn to wedding photography because I loved the challenge and the opportunity to tell a couple’s story. There was something so special about witnessing two people celebrate the next chapter of their lives and capturing the genuine moments that unfolded throughout the day.

After several years, I found myself feeling burnt out. The long days, fast pace, and constant pressure—along with the expectation of discounts—made me realize it was time for a change.

That’s when I shifted my focus to family photography. I fell in love with documenting authentic connections, preserving memories, and capturing families just as they are.

More recently, I’ve found a new passion in branding and product photography. As a small business owner myself, I know how much heart goes into building something from the ground up. I love helping fellow entrepreneurs tell their story—how their business began, what inspires them, showcasing the products they’ve worked so hard to create, and capturing the person behind the brand. Every business has a story worth telling, and I love bringing those stories to life through intentional, meaningful images.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This road of working in photography has a learning curve. Weather or not to stay in it. trying to keep and gain clients with so many photographers around the area. most the time I keep trying to do new things to stay with the times of what clients want. Now I am at a stage where I am trying to be more true to my style. have kiddos use cameras while doing a session or telling more detail stories of the small business. My goal is to showcase some photos to gain more clients but right now I am going to continue to take a break. Teach photography. Have afterschool clubs, to gain more interest in photography in kiddos. Teaching film and digital.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in Family and Branding photography. I Love street photography but mainly do that as a hobby to keep for myself. maybe one day I will do more and get more of my art out there for people to see. I am most proud of my work I do with clients, either showcasing a small business or capturing the story of a family. I love to create. I think what sets me apart is incorporating film in my style of photography. Also doing most of my art with the camera, without a lot of post editing. I love the natural feel and seeing things without a lot of post edits.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Falling in love with telling a story. sharing a story my clients feel comfortable sharing and being able to capture their families or businesses the way they want to share them. enjoying the process more of the outcome.
