Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Leguizamon.
Leah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Everyone’s story begins somewhere! Before I started My Roots Photography journey, I was in cosmetology and the agriculture industries. But my roots have always leaned towards capturing life moments. My husband laughs all the time at the random albums I have from college. Yes, you read that right! albums, as in boxes and shelves full of all the pictures from a time when every picture was printed or lost.
My photography adventure blossomed after my second child was born. My husband and I decided that being a stay at home mom was the best path for our family. This allowed me precious time home with my kids, and time to develop my passion for photography with the cutest two models around!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say one of the biggest challenges is finding your price point! Each client is unique and you want to give them a unique experience. Something that will keep them coming back year after year and telling all their friends about you! With that being said you have to consider who is asking about the price, what level of detail they are looking for, and their previous experience with say another photographer. Understand their needs! You might need to discuss their priorities and needs, and what the experience looks like to them.
It’s always helpful to shift the conversation to value! Photographers could be capturing the last memory you have with a loved one!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love to design my sets! I would say “Cake Smash” sessions are my specialty. No one session is exactly like another even if the same theme is chosen! I have a prop closet that’s busting at the seams and make custom cut outs.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I definitely don’t have the networking figured out still. However mentors are amazing. I’ve found a couple photographers that I admired their work and reached out! They have been amazing support and offered lots of guidance! Just have to put yourself out there and ask
