Meet Lorian DuCharme

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorian DuCharme.

Hi Lorian, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Previously a middle school teacher for 20 years in NJ, I lost my passion. I was on the leadership committee, conducted staff development, and a google certified trainer. But one day I woke up and I just didn’t want to do it anymore. That’s when I decided to move back to Colorado. At first, I dipped my toes into social media marketing and management, but then I was offered a job in project management. I took the job for consistent pay. A few months in, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. I kept the job and got my life in order prior to surgery – I had a complete thyroidectomy and 16 lymph nodes removed. Recovery ended up being harder than anticipated. While I was home, I began studying real estate. My plan was to start part-time while still working. But, a blessing in disguise occurred – I lost my job while I was home recovering! So I studied, hard, got licensed, and started my real estate career in January 2020.

What many people don’t know is that as a realtor, you are your own business. You work under a brokerage, but you are now an entrepreneur. My husband and I created Forever Charmed Homes as a part of my business; we will be branching out into home rehabs, fix & flips, short-term rentals, and tiny home rentals all within the next year!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a bumpy road. Soon after I started, we had covid shutdowns, which took me longer to get established. I still feel some of the residual effects of that, but I just kept learning and applying and finding ways to meet people.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in helping others. I’ve been trying to target a niche; I mostly work with first-time home buyers. I love the experience because, as a former educator, I get to educate them on the process. I hope that I make it a little less stressful for my clients by keeping them informed. I’m most proud of the value and leadership skills that I bring to the table. What sets me apart from others is my compassion and understanding, my ability to listen, and my skills as an educator.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Covid has taught me persistence, patience, and compassion.
