Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Lorenzo.
Hi Maria, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m from Venezuela and moved to this country 26 years ago. I came with 2 children, 4 luggage and with a firmly decision to have a better life, for me and my sons. Surely, we’ve been fulfilling that.
I’ve being in the hospitality industry for over 20 years: from bartender, waitress, cook, chef, executive chef, and lately, totally dedicated to bake cakes, cookies, creating personalize desserts for restaurants, cakes, etc.
Sometimes I’m surprised by my passion for baking. Every detail, every possible combination of flavors and texture, that allow me to please a customer’s palate. I love to always add a Latin touch on my desserts.; this way, I can keep connected with my roots.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Life is beautiful if you’re not afraid of living it. Is not easy but is still worthy it. For me my biggest struggle has been learning a new language while I had to work.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Working in the hospitality industry for over 20 years I have had the opportunity to work with a variety of places and different chef that tough me to go out of my box and create new and exciting experiences. Right now, I’m teaching basic pastry to a group that has mental challenges and they want to move forward in life. That is something that feel my soul of blessing!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Being a baker (and love it!) I don’t ask for dessert when I’m eating out.
I was for around 8 months in a Tampa local Telemundo TV channel cooking on camera.
