Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Guadalupe.
Hi Melissa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My backstory basically is what I poke fun of on so I’ll media. Today’s society still is in awe when they see a tall woman. I use a mixture of humor with memes of odd encounters with those who want to point out I am tall. I’m 5’11 but still get random comments or questions about my height. So I use Instagram as an outlet for that. I also use it to document my running goals and races I run. I use it as inspiration since in my early 20’s I weighed 250 plus pounds. I lost the weight, discovered the community of running and eventually joined the army with my new found self. I am no longer in the Army bit continue with my turning goals and post them on Instagram as a form of inspiration for my kids as well as others who made need that push. I don’t look like what the standard look is of a runner and I harp on that as well. I also throw in pics of shoes, I am an avid brooks user and will post nutrition. So my posts are a mix of alot of things that embody who I am today. I also bake as a hobby but document what I make and sell on another platform.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I have not had a smooth road or journey for most of my life. I got married very young,, despite being told we would never make it. I’ve conquered being told I would never have kids to having two. I had to prove myself more than others in the military because I was older and didn’t fit the mold of a soldier. I’ve also had to adapt to changes when making desserts with covid. I also adapt to changing my running habits as I get older.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I’ve learned to be open to adapt to change. The world is forever marked by this and adaptability is of grave importance. if you don’t adapt, you will be left behind.
