Today we’d like to introduce you to Milana Schaffer.
Hi Milana, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
In my previous interview, I emphasized how my passion for creativity ignited my journey into photography. However, as time has passed—nearly five years—I’ve come to realize that while creativity remains integral to my story, it’s my alignment with God’s will and purpose that has truly shaped my path.
Becoming a photographer wasn’t always on my radar. Unlike many, I didn’t grow up with a camera in hand, nor did I harbor childhood aspirations of pursuing photography. It wasn’t until my late twenties, prompted by a conversation about purpose and the unique gifts within us all, that I began to earnestly seek clarity through prayer.
In that pivotal moment of introspection, I found myself drawn towards photography—a calling I hadn’t anticipated but embraced wholeheartedly. It was a decision rooted in faith, guided by a newfound understanding of my place in the world.
Fast forward almost 12 years, and my dedication to my craft burns as brightly as ever. Yet, it’s not just about capturing moments; it’s about honoring God’s plan for my life through my work. This journey has deepened my spiritual connection, bringing me closer to the divine in ways I couldn’t have imagined.
Today, I stand as a testament to the transformative power of surrendering to God’s guidance. While my love for creativity initiated my journey, it’s my faith that sustains and enriches it, infusing every photograph with purpose and meaning.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life is often filled with challenges, yet I’ve discovered that finding alignment with my life’s calling makes the journey smoother. Despite encountering doubters and critics, knowing I’m living in accordance with my purpose helps drown out their voices, as I listen to the louder voice of God. My family, clients, and I find joy in the photos I create, and that’s what truly matters.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in lifestyle photography, focusing on families with young children. Additionally, I offer headshots, newborn, and senior sessions shoot events, and theater performances. My heart lies in capturing the lively chaos of big families with many kids. Through games, songs, and prompts, I aim for authentic expressions and genuine smiles.
My goal is to celebrate my clients as they are today, showcasing their true personalities in beautiful photos. Beyond photography, I relish building personal connections with my clients. I want them to cherish the entire experience, not just the images. I aspire to be their family historian, documenting their growth and milestones over time.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking.
Absolutely! I firmly believe that we must reject the spirit of fear. Fear hinders us from embracing our true identity and fulfilling our purpose. It fosters lies and doubts that immobilize us, preventing us from sharing our gifts with the world.
While taking risks doesn’t guarantee success, it provides invaluable learning experiences for growth. Failure serves as a roadmap for improvement, while success is achieved through patience, perseverance, and innovative approaches.
