Today we’d like to introduce you to Mr. Mota. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Mr. Mota started at a college graduation party in May 2021. Members Brendan Lamb, Rosen, and Ari Lerman had met through mutual friends and began jamming with each other. Eventually, they were hired for a graduation party and called on Ari’s brother, Max Lerman, and famous Boulder scuba diver Willie Vogel to join the group. The band was hired for more parties after their first successful show and decided to make Mr. Mota official.
In the next year and a half, Mr. Mota continued to push the limit for new bands in the area. They have nearly sold out the Fox Theater twice, released their first single “Smoke Too Much” and toured the country on their own. They are currently recording a plethora of songs and planning their second summer tour to the east coast.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
With every road comes some bumps and turns. Luckily, being best friends with each other has made the journey very smooth. We all have an insane amount of respect for each other as musicians and as overall people. Traveling with the band feels like a vacation, not work.
We’ve concluded that gym memberships are a waste of money since we carry heavy equipment to and from every show. We’ve spent so much time with each other, that we’ve begun developing our language. Please don’t be alarmed if we call your dog a “feesh”.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We feel like we’re just scratching the surface of what’s possible with Mr. Mota. We love performing live more than anything, especially when our lovely, well-behaved fans come out strong. We turned our outdoor appreciation into mountain town tours where we could perform at local bars and camp out after the gig.
Bassist Ari Lerman explains, “I’ve been a camping bum for a while. It’s awesome that we can still get out to the mountains and also play shows. All I need to pack is my bass, tent, and a 12-pack of Hebrew National hotdogs and I’m set for the weekend.”
What do you think about happiness?
Playing music is our best outlet for raw expression and emotion. We all have deep connections to the music we play and it’s very apparent when we’re performing for a crowd or simply jamming around a campfire. We are also at our happiest. The Lerman Brothers have been avid campers for years and have quickly converted the rest of the band to sleeping on a creekside for a weekend.
We love creating new sounds together. It’s common for Rosen to walk into practice and immediately share a new riff or song he’s been working on. Overall, we love being around each other and sharing these experiences of being a young, up-and-coming band.
