Life & Work with Mykayla Victoriano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mykayla Victoriano.

Hi Mykayla, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
When I was little my mom was into photography and would have me and my sister dress up in all sorts of fun things and take our photos, along with a few people here and there that would pay her to take their photos. I loved the thought of it so much! When I was older and had a cellphone that took decent photos, I started taking pictures of everything. That’s when I fully realized I wanted to be a photographer. I had a few people who had let me barrow their cameras so I could practice. I took Photos of mainly family or landscapes when I could. One of the people who let me use her camera for a family member’s wedding found out a year later I wanted to be a photographer and gave me her camera to help start off my journey! I started doing all the photos I could to build a portfolio. When I moved to Colorado from Washington, I started joining groups and finding models that were looking to build portfolios and started the process of getting my DBA for my business. I volunteered for lots of free shoots before I finally got my business started. One of those free shoots I volunteered for previous to being official, ended up getting published in two exposure magazines. It felt amazing. From there my self-confidence just continued to grow and I set prices and started to advertise more. I’m not where I want to be yet but I’m so so proud of where I am right now!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I personally felt it was pretty rough. Self-doubt can make any road a rocky one. I felt like I was chasing a dream that was never REALLY gonna happen. I always felt like I wasn’t the type of person to do good unless someone was telling me what and how to do it. It took me moving almost 2000 miles away from my home to realize exactly how strong and motivated and hard-headed I really am.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a photographer, who takes all kinds of photos. So far, I’d say I specialize in mostly boudoir photography, but I do a little of everything from family to weddings. I’m most proud of the growth I can see in my work. I never thought I was a bad photographer but I was definitely not as educated and experienced as I am now. I’m not sure what sets me apart from others except maybe my personality and drive.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My family and my work both make me incredibly happy! I have an amazing husband and a beautiful daughter and every photoshoot I do I feel I grow and get better and that makes me so happy.
