Life & Work with Nicole Magness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Magness.

Hi Nicole, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My business started the same time my oldest son was born, a little over four years ago! I had a passion early on for photography and my husband and I decided that I would stay home with our baby while diving into my dream full time! It has been a snowball effect ever since and I’m so grateful for what this has turned into for me!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been plenty of struggles in this adventure but not in the typical sense. My biggest hurdle has been juggling home life and photography. Emails, editing, social media, and more editing have always been shoved in random spaces I can find throughout the day and into the night. There have been times I have sat with my laptop in the bathroom while the kids were in the bath! The older my little ones get and the more experience I gain, I find it easier to balance! I am so grateful to have such an incredible client base to stand by me through it all!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I joke and say I am an avid toddler chaser and it is true! Family photography has my heart through and through. The season of life that I am in right now, along with most of my families, is so magnetic to me. I am completely enthralled in all of the chaos that comes with young families. Classic family portraits with everyone saying cheese is always special but the unique photos of daddy giving his daughter raspberries, mommy snuggling her baby and playing with her little curls, and little boys playing in the dirt and collecting sticks is truly what makes a photo session special to me. I take pride in freezing this time for my clients to look back on and cherish forever. To feel every emotion all over again.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The most important quality for me to succeed would probably be patience. I never want to make my clients feel rushed or uncomfortable. There is a lot to creating a business but when you are with a family, how you make them feel is everything. My goal at every session is to create a calm environment! Getting ready for a photo shoot is stressful enough!
