Life & Work with Peter Trinh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Trinh.

Peter Trinh

Hi Peter, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Denver. I’ve known I wanted to be an actor as early as 5. I studied theatre in high school but never got cast in anything until college. I graduated from MSU Denver with my BA in theatre in 2007. And so I have been doing theatre for about the last 20 years, while also trying to actively find film/television/commercial work as much as I can.

I am also a writer and stand-up comedian. My biggest work I have penned is a play about my parent’s immigration from Viet Nam, “BOAT PERSON.” I have been lucky to perform this piece around CO New Orleans and Minneapolis, garnering several awards. I also have several short screenplays, and a television pilot I am shopping to major studios.

In comedy, I have about 2.5 years of experience, off and on. At one point I was part of a comedy group, Mic-Brewed Comedy, that hosted a weekly open mic in Arvada. Currently, I am on the rotating list for Comedy Works’ New Talent Night.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The path of art is never smooth, but one learns to enjoy the lessons of the “scenic route.” Especially as an artist of color. Early on, I received wise advice that I would receive work and NOT receive work based on who I am, and the quicker I am at accepting that, the better off I will be.

Acting is riddled with a constant barrage of rejection, so the tenacity to forge forward is the base requirement. Even though, I have learned to follow my interest and take on work that inspires me. It has always led me to growth, and I have learned the right project usually comes at the right time.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I act. First and foremost. Expression of emotion and relationships on stage or in film is what drives my soul.

As with any successful artist, I have found a process that alchemizes my pain and perspective of life into something beautiful. I never stray from the base motivations of this work, and I believe this is what attracts people to observe it, and people to constantly desire to work with me.

Any big plans?
At this point in my career, I am looking to find more work outside of CO and gain further experience and exposure, with hopes of harnessing additional accolades.
