Life & Work with Raul Pinto of boulder

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raul Pinto.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
both myself and jg mazzotta were raised in and around sk8 shops.. so when we came to college at cu we both gravitated to the best local shop at the time here in boulder.. (brothers boards) but when brothers decided to close in 2001 we picked up where they left off, in 2002 adding even more inclussion, youth based camps and tons of grssroots events etc. the rest is history

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
overall yea but we deal w all of the same hurdles of owning a small business, it would be great if the city, and state along with federal branches all realized how important small business is to communities and had more incentives and breaks to make that quality of life better for our families and our employees.. nobody is getting rich over here but we all lovenand enjoy what we do for ourselves the kids and the community here in colorado.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
i think community outreach and scene building.. when we started we were outsides bringing a “california” lifesyle to co but with snowboarding and skatebaording we pushed what was possible thru events like ride w us, (a sk8n park tour intended to grow the sk8 scene outside of boulder) lovegame (a diy snowboard contest) and the greenblock project (a sk8 park project focussed on entry level and advanced spots using repurposed land within the city limits. i cant name too mny shops that have done any or all of these at any scale or longevity

What are your plans for the future?
continue to build on what we started add more skus to our inhouse brand as well as continue to develop our online business. keep our eye focused on youth and welcome more kids and families into these sports and culture
