Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Sueper

Hi Scott, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have been a professional hairdresser for over 25 years and have truly loved making it my career. I’ve had several business adventures with partners over the years, but never really owned a salon all on my own. Then, I opened Ivy + Oak Salon in August 2019 with the intention of creating an inclusive space for all people, especially LGBTQIA+. My husband and I envisioned it as a great way to build community. We’ve been open for nearly 6 years now and expanded to include a Spa & Wellness Center in June 2023.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We have had countless struggles along the way. From staffing challenges/turnover to inflation and rising cost of products, as well as dealing with occassional vandalism and theft. It can seem like the challenges never end at times, though, it has grown our resilience and determination.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Most days I spend with my team and my clients, being creative, doing hair and giving free therapy. It’s without a doubt my ultimate passion. I love connecting with people and building relationships while also doing the most to make sure customers leave a happier human. I also shared the joy of being a Global Educator for nearly 20 years. I was able to travel the world and train other hairdressers in their work behind the chair. It was absolutely the most positive career choice I have ever made and I now have friends everywhere!

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I would say people may not know how passionate we are at Ivy + Oak about a holistic approach to both overall wellness and how we care for our customer’s hair, skin and body. We strive to provide many avenues of self-care so people have countless opportunities to experience the beauty in reconnecting to yourself.
