Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon Baumgartner.
Hi Shannon, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
At the young age of 12 years old, I started working full time. This allowed me to gain a strong work ethic – one that would help propel me in a higher education, and ultimately, a career in architecture. But, finding how to harness that energy and decide on a chosen path was sometimes a sideways (or even a backwards) step.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The first step to reaching the next goal was to make the leap into pursuing a higher education. This would later be fueled with more ambition to continue learning. Some would say that I am a professional student. But, when you are following that which you love, you are eager to seek knowledge and understanding. Still a college student today, I embrace the opportunity to immerse myself in architecture every day. I am well beyond the age of the average college student, but I plan to continue.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
SP Designs Ltd. is a woman-owned firm formed in 2019 by Shannon Baumgartner, Senior Architectural Designer. The Colorado-based company provides design expertise to clientele seeking plans for interior design improvements, remodel existing buildings for improved functionality and aesthetics, and new buildings for residential and commercial projects. Paying careful attention to the client’s culture, beliefs, physical requirements and budget, SP Designs employs consultation, drafting, periodic reviews, material selection, and cross-coordination with various contractors and trades throughout the project to ensure a comprehensive design solution. Recognized by BUILD magazine as one of their “Leaders in Sustainable Architectural Designs,” the article highlights SP Designs for implementing strategies focusing on sustainability, energy efficiency, quality, and value.
What’s next?
Habitat for Humanity is building three neighborhoods I designed and is constructing twelve homes I designed. I hope to expand on giving back to the community through more non-profit organizations. In doing so, I would like to grow the firm as people learn about what we do. Simultaneously, I plan to finish my master’s degree (M. Arch) and continue my studies towards a PhD.
