Life & Work with Snaff Zubberano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Snaff Zubberano.

Hi Snaff, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I’m originally from Cranston, Rhode Island. I spawn from a big Italian family where my mother was always filming every family gathering or event with her 8000-pound VHS camcorder. That planted the seed in me that grew into this wonderful, complex, and twisted tree of wanting to and becoming a filmmaker/actor.  It then lead to me getting my own camera when I was in middle school and started filming everything, just like mommy dearest.

Eventually, I started roping my friends into my filming escapades and we started making our own movies and comedy sketches. Who could forget “The Legend of the Green Mister” or “How the Titanic sank” a riveting short film that takes place in my kitchen sink! As the years went on, I got more and more serious about my craft and eventually took filmmaking classes in high school and went to college for it. At the same time, I got very involved in lots of networking on social media, expanding my inner circle and working with as many people that I admired as I could.

I then started working on larger-scaled productions starting at the bottom on titles such as America’s Got Talent, The X-Factor, Black Mass, The Purge: Election Year, Live by Night, and many more. I worked my way up to various higher positions on other productions such as Production Manager, Director, Producer, Writer and even some acting roles sprinkled in. Eventually, I started directing my larger-scaled productions where I felt like I could have ultimate control of my career,  whereas in the bigger productions in lower positions you are just a cog in the wheel for other productions that you don’t have complete control of.

Today, I am directing two 80s/90s style comedy shows called “The Linda Eldridge Program” and “The Garden of Wonder” which are crazy talk shows with guest celebrity interviews. The Linda Eldridge Program is currently out at youtube.com/TheLindaEldridgeProgram. The Garden of Wonder will be coming out early this year. I can finally say I see the light at the end of the tunnel as far as where I want to be for a long time in my career.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The path to “success”, most of the time isn’t easy. I would say to never get too comfortable with where you are or where you THINK you’re going. Because, it never quite works out the way you think it’s going to. For me, an absolute obstacle has been traveling so much and not staying put in one spot.  This has always been a struggle because a lot of the homebases of the INDUSTRY is in LA, and I feel like being there full-time would speed things along quite a bit. But the turtle wins the race, and I am the turtle in this situation. And you know as turtles always say “Don’t worry, I’ll always have a home on my back”.

I feel as though wherever I go, including Denver, I bring the industry with me. Fortunately, for me in the meantime, with modern technology and the ability to travel often, I’m able to be there when I need to be. I work all over the country from Rhode Island to South Carolina, Mass, New York, California, Colorado, Iowa, and many other states across the country. For that, I am very fortunate – and I would’ve never been able to achieve that without modern-day technology and networking opportunities.

Still, however, it’s not an easy industry to break into. You got to think outside of the box and work yourself from many different angles. If there isn’t a door, you build a window (or however that saying goes). That’s what I’ve been able to do with myself as far as acting goes or directing, if the opportunities aren’t around, you MAKE one yourself. Don’t have a camera pick up a phone and start filming, grab your brother, give him some lines and turn him into a star. It’s not about what resources you have or don’t have, it’s what you do with it. And remember kids: positive energy and determination attract other positive energy and determination.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a director/producer/actor also known as Adam Carbone that also is going under my directorial name of Snaff Zubberano – I’m most known for my breakout role in a film called Randy’s Canvas where I play a character with Autism, a painter, who falls in love for the first time and has to deal with the trial and tribulations of life.

With this film, I won best Actor and we won best picture at Ed Asner’s film festival “Autfest” since then I’ve been acting in multiple other films as well as directing two of my shows. My new film that I star in and co-wrote will be out this year called “Poor Paul” – something we shot on a phone! The Garden of Wonder (set to drop this year) as well as The Linda Eldridge Program. My style is very outlandish and offbeat, which I believe stands out in a crowd of so much saturated content. Everyone can make videos and films nowadays, so I try to stick to my unique style and make everything the old-school way.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Being in the entertainment industry, you need to surround yourself with the best knowledge you can find. If you are a Quentin fan, get the Quentin books, watch his films, and study them. Absorb yourself. Same thing with acting. Watch actors act, listen to their interviews, and take classes. Sometimes that is the best way to learn!

Since college, I’ve been subscribed to videomaker magazine where I am always up to date with the latest gear, editing software, and things of that nature. As far as my favorite actors, filmmakers, and comedians I try to watch every interview that’s available out there and try to study how they did what they did and got where they got.
