Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Vincenty
Hi Stephanie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started Flower Fifth Candle Company a few years ago. I was born at Flower Fifth Hospital in the big city of dreams, New York City. Inspired by my place of birth and the birth of my candle company, I decided to incorporate the name, Flower Fifth, into my brand.
As a Registered Nurse of over 20 years, I began making candles at the height of the pandemic in 2020. As this was a difficult time for many of us, as a healthcare worker, it took a toll on my health and well-being. Nonetheless I continued to care for my patients to the best of my ability. My passion for caring for my patients extended into a great passion for candle making.
My youngest daughter bought my first candle making kit in 2020 and I began making candles as a creative hobby. Since then, I have developed and perfected the craft which has evolved from a hobby into a business. I intend to focus on enjoying the moments of candle creation and having a creative space that allows me to escape from the demands of life.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Over the years I’ve had obstacles while learning candle making, in addition to learning how to build a small business. The biggest challenges I’ve discovered, was learning the exact science with hand pouring candles and handcrafting candle vessels/jars. It took several attempts to ensure I had the correct measurements, melt temperatures, burn time, and accurate mixtures of wax/fragrances etc. , in order to create good quality, well crafted and safe products. It took several attempts and lots of materials to create. In addition to learning candle making, I’ve had to do extensive research learning the business, marketing, and entrepreneurship aspect. Although it has taken a great deal of time to learn the craft, I’ve found it to be intriguing and it’s kept my interest heightened. I understand I have more to learn, but welcome the ability to enhance my knowledge and creativity.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I work full-time as a Registered Nurse – Medical Auditor. In my spare time, mostly weekends, I’m making candles in my studio. I was inspired to become a nurse after witnessing the care my mother received after becoming ill several years ago. She received optimum levels of care by her nurses and I was immediately inspired. It was during those difficult times I knew I wanted to take care of my patients the same way my mother was cared for. It took several years to complete my degree in nursing, as I worked full-time at a Fortune 500 company and went to school in the evenings. My ambition and determination never wavered. I completed nursing school, resigned from my corporate job, and have practiced nursing for over two decades. I’ve taken the same determination with building my candle company and although I had no intention turning my craft into a business, I was encouraged by my daughters to create Flower Fifth Candle Company. Making candles to me, is a great form of self-expression, an artistic outlet, and overall quite relaxing. I’ve built a home studio where I handcraft my candles, each taking about 8 days to make. My goal is that my candles provide a sense of calm, tranquility, serenity and peace in any space. The things I’m most proud of that pertains to my career in nursing and being an entrepreneur are one in the same and that is having a purpose, determination and making a difference.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Some of the things I like about our city are the friendly people, arts/museums, public parks, roof top restaurants, and diversity/culture. There are plenty of restaurants to dine, great entertainment, and hidden gems to explore. And of course, our beautiful Rocky Mountains are one of natures greatest gifts. Least…..the traffic and driving, oh and the pot holes!
