Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Koele
Hi Sydney, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I loved to express myself in different ways artistically. I have always loved experimenting with different styles and mediums. As I got older, I realized that art was a genuine passion of mine and with some support from my family, I was given that extra push to pursue a career in this field.
I have always debated becoming a tattoo artist, but I would have never dreamed I would fall in love with this career this much!
I am so grateful to create art for a living, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Becoming a tattoo artist has not always been an easy process.
Unfortunately, this industry can be quite intimidating and scary, especially for a young woman who is still getting her feet on the ground.
In the earlier years of tattooing, I found myself battling the harsh reality of how intimidating and demanding this career is.
Once I was able to venture out on my own, I realized that things did not need to be so harsh.
I have been very fortunate to find Nest Art Collective, which has given me the space to become my own artist, and to feel comfortable with my art and my own personal style.
I have seen both sides of the tattoo industry, and I am so grateful to be a part of a community that allows people to feel safe and comfortable in such a vulnerable position.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a fine line artist based in Denver, Colorado, and I adore doing very dainty and feminine tattoos!
A few years ago, it was commonly thought that fine line tattoos cannot be done, and that they would not heal well.
However, with the proper training and knowledge on this subject, I am so proud to say that I have been helping to change this narrative slowly but surely,
I hope in the years to come, the stigma around fine line tattoos is gone, and people can feel comfortable getting the designs that make them feel confident and beautiful!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
In high school, I was fascinated with chemistry, and even won a few awards for the work that I did!
I even worked with Vanderbilt to do some research on insects, and assisted in finding help for invasive species in Florida!
I still have a love for chemistry, but I am grateful to utilize it in the world of tattooing instead.
