Meet AJ of Organizing by AJ

Today we’d like to introduce you to AJ.

Hi AJ, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started Organizing by AJ in 2021, during the pandemic, when I encountered being fired for the first time in my job history. I took time to realize where my talents would best serve humanity and where I would get the most out of helping people. Thus, Organizing by AJ was born!

I taught myself how to build a website, manage my business, and learn more about how to get clients. I took some time to build my portfolio, organizing for friends and family as well. Showcasing all the ways I can help people in different situations or stages in life get the most out of their spaces.

I am proud to say I help people all over Northern Colorado and across the country regain control of their spaces. I enjoy meeting new people, understanding how they live and what their struggles are, and creating a plan to help them.

I will be celebrating 2 years in September 2023, and I am so honored with the friendships I’ve made and the people I’ve helped working as an Organizer, and I am looking forward to more of that in the future.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not always been a smooth road because life throws challenges at all of us.

Being fired was my first challenge. I had never experienced this before and felt myself feeling worthless and sad. This was hardly true, and I knew it. I just had to grieve the loss of something I had high hopes for, and it turned out to be the best blessing in disguise.

I looked at my past jobs, decided what I did or didn’t love about them, and what I learned and concluded that I would best serve myself and others by sharing my talent to organize and help people work through the cluttered areas of their homes and lives, teaching them how to process the “stuff”.

One of the other biggest obstacles I encountered was finding clients, but once I understood the workings of search engine optimization (SEO) from the coaching sessions at the Larimer County Small Business Development Center, I was able to put my faith in Angi (formerly Home Advisor), and they have provided me some amazing opportunities to connect with clients.

I am sure there will be many more challenges along the way, personal and business, but I know I have confidence in my ability to learn, grow, and adapt to the needs of my clients and myself.

Learning never stops, and growth can only follow my lead.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Organizing by AJ?
In my business, I focus on creating and teaching transferable systems to people with open, honest, and kind communication based on how they live. I like to engage my clients with their habits to better understand how to organize and create a system unique to them.

I utilize products from all stores, and oftentimes, if the client would like, I repurpose items that would be tossed into a landfill, giving them new life and new excitement for their new purpose.

My clients often tell me how thrilling and life-changing my attitude and services are. I bring the energy of a personal trainer with off-the-cuff solutions to ensure a unique, fun, and encouraging experience to keep up the desire to have a space that doesn’t stress them out.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
I support as many community non or not-for-profits as I can. I donate with intent, which means I confer with my clients on how things they are getting rid of can be repurposed back into our community.

I am on multiple email lists that list the most needed things for certain charities. I also like to keep in mind local animal shelters because some linens that are not worth reselling can be repurposed to places for animals.

I like to collaborate with other organizers in the area on what is and isn’t working for them, and if I can pass any business along, I do. Organizing is such a personal experience, and with all the different personalities out there, there is an organizer out there for everyone, and more joining the profession every day.
